Everything was working and was able to load/play two backed up games. Now getting a "No WBFS partition found" when running USB loader. If I press A to format, I get "No partitions found! (ret = -6)" Unplug USB drive from Wii and plug back into PC. WBFS Manger3.0 is able to see the backed up games on the drive though the Wii cannot. Ive tried deleting the partition and re-creating with no type defined then formatting with WBFS - same result. Questions: Should I update the menu version? Do I need to downgrade to an older cIOS before upgrading to a newer one? I am going to try a different USB drive tomorrow. zsteve, Sep 28, 2009 #1 zsteve Member Joined: Nov 29, 2004 Messages: 2 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 11 I've tried a second portable 40GB USB drive and cannot get that to work either. I tried creating just one partition using the whole 40GB. Anybody have any ideas? zsteve, Sep 29, 2009 #2 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) Here's how it works. Last year we shared two guides with you that other people had written — the original and a revision — on how to back up and play error no your Wii games from an external hard drive. Unfortunately, like many things on the internet, the guides faded into the digital night (read: they were taken down). Setting up your Wii with an external hard drive is a wildly popular topic, however, and since the old guides went offline, we've received daily emails on the topic. In response to the demand, here's our own complete guide to setting up your Wii to play games from a USB hard drive. error no partitions When laid out screen-by-screen this guide is quite lengthy, but the process itself only takes about 10 minutes start to finish — if you're not stopping to take lots of screenshots and write a tutorial along the way! This guide will show you how to activate an exploit on your Wii to allow more advanced Homebrew software to run, how to setup and format an external USB hard drive to play nice with your Wii, and how to manage the process of backing up your games and displaying them in cover-flow inspired style. When you're done your games will be load fast, be immune from scratches and mishandling, and be displayed in a way that will make your friends envious. Before you delve into the project why don't we take a peek at this video demonstration of the interface to help you decide if it's worth it — it's so worth it, but who's going to say no to a video tour? Ready to call in sick and spend the day setting up your Wii? No? Watch the video again. Precautions and the Necessary Hardware: Before we get started, let's review some necessary cautions and the tools we'll need. Anytime you mess around with a piece of closed hardware like a Wii and start monkeying with the guts you risk bricking your toy. Have we ever bricked a Wii? No, despite modding
users of USB Loader on how to boot and backup games through the USB drive. First, the necessary requirements; • Installed Homebrew Channel’s latest version • The original file IOS36-64-v1042.wad (GOOGLE!) • This file pack which includes IOS rev9 + v1.1 Preparation: • Select the usbloader.rar file and extract it into the root folder of the SD card. • Stick the original IOS36-64-v1042.wad file into the root folder of the SD card. • Now, boot Homebrew Channel and after this run the IOS installer. • Select “WAD Install” and it will automatically get installed. • Reset Wii. Running the USB Loader: • Insert into the Wii a USB drive. • Now, boot the homebrew channel and choose USB-LOADER . • The installer should demand for choosing and formatting a partition otherwise the plugged in USB drive is not supported. All the data on the USB drive will get erased by formatting so remember to back it up and it will be easy to convert the USB drive back to normal later. As the USB drive is now formatted under the WBFS, Windows however will not recognize it and thus not able to read it. • Select a partition of your choice and continue. • Now, insert the original or backup game disk into the Wii. • Press the + button. It will display a message “Opening DVD disk…OK!” After this, it will move on to continue with the ripping operation. Troubleshooting: Q: Whenever I install the IOS file, this error “extracting content #00….ERROR! (ret=-1017)” comes up? A: Try using AnytitleDeleter. This will help in getting rid of ISO249. Q: I have a problem in booting USB Loader due to an error saying “Could not initialize USB subsystem! (ret=-1)”? A: You have to use another USB drive or recheck the connections as either your USB stick is not supported or it is corrupted. Also, remove any plugged-in device from the other USB port. If still it is giving an error, then just switch your USB port. I do not recommend this method but some people reported successful results via hotswapping. Others reported that they plugged in two error-showing USB’s together and one of them started working. Q: It freezes during the ripping process although it got passed 0.01%. A: In my case, this problem
