(troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) An error is encountered when attempting to anr8779e unable to open drive error 2 access a tape drive for read, write, or inquiry operations. Symptom The following error

is seen, followed by the process failing: 02/04/2012 09:28:09 ANR8779E Unable to open drive MT0.0.0.1, error number=2. (SESSION: 22) Cause The device is anr8779e error number=16 using an incorrect device driver for use with Tivoli Storage Manager. Diagnosing the problem It's common to see this error when attempting to define the path to a drive when the incorrect device driver is associated with the drive. The Windows Device Manager can be used to anr8779e error number=6 determine what device driver is currently associated with the drive (properties->device driver). Resolving the problem Install the correct device driver for the drive to resolve this problem. We recently had a new tsm system installed with an 3583 library fitted with 2 tape drives. Everything has been running fine for about 2 months and now this week for some reason the server will not access the drives. From the TSM command line I can update the drive status so it shows them as being online but when i query the path or try to update the path to bring the both the tape drives online i get the following error messages:
