2006, 9:33 pm You might want to try this to see if authentication for Newsgroups is the same To set up Thunderbird (or Mozilla Suite) to use authentication with your SMTP server: * Go to "Tools -> Account Settings -> Outgoing Server (SMTP)". (Or in a Newsgroup you would click on the account name and then on the right click on View Settings For This Account and then authentication error occurred wifi android click on Outgoing Server) * Select the server and press the Edit... button. * Check the "Use name and password" option. * Add your username. Your username might be your full e-mail address (e.g., "johndoe@domain.com") or only the part before the "@" ("johndoe"), depending on your service provider; check with them which is correct. * Click "OK". Frank_v7 Guest Posted December 30th, 2006, 8:17 am Thanks for the reply. Yup, done that. Even confirmed with my ISP who provides my newsgroup access. User name (full email address) and password are correct. It's like Thunderbird can't remember them for newsgroups. Email and browsing with Firefox are flawless. It's just that d#*n news server. I have also deleted and recreated the account. This is a stand alone box with me as the only user. I've even deleted Thunderbird and reinstalled. I'm begining to think that my ISP (FrontierNet) has screwed something up. This problem started a few days ago after a system wide failure. Internet access and email came back, but I still get "A News (NNTP) error occurred: Authentication Failed" which is wrong because I confirmed with the ISP tech line that I'm using the correct user name and password. The real downside
