at best. This morning, I'd left my MBP logged in & sleeping from home, and plugged in at work. Messages remained logged in to AIM, GChat & Facebook via Jabber. However, after a restart, those services will not reconnect.Messages lost the connection to the AIM account "xxxx”. A network error occurred.Messages lost the connection to the Google Talk account "xxxxx”. A network error occurred.Following other tips on here, I've dumped a variety of .plist files, removed my accounts & added again, set preferences to use separate Buddy lists, and checked/unchecked/checked again the use SSL options. This started to feel like a DNS issue. But, I'm running XPsp3 via VirtualBox, and that computer's AIM & Yahoo connections on Trillian work just fine. Then I downloaded & installed the official AIM.app, and it also connected without issue. I can ping each of those hosts from the command line. Before upgrading, I had been using iChat on 10.4/10.5/10.6/10.7 with those account without problem. Strangely, Bonjour rarely connected under those configurations but does now every time. iMessages work properly. I am having the same issues as Alex (above post). I've repeatedly added/deleted the AIM 6 from the https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5142181?tstart=0 trusted applications list. I don't know what to do anymore. Any help would be beneficial. Lucian Bara 18.04.2007 15:22 hellodoes it work if you disable kav?which firewall are you using? fez758 18.04.2007 20:25 Yeah, it only works when KAV 6 is disabled. From the look of it, I have Zone Alarm Internet Security's firewall activated. I'm also running on XP Home with windows firewall inactive, too. Don Pelotas 18.04.2007 20:29 That would be the reason, not a good combo, try to https://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t29600.html unnstall the ZA suite completely and use the XP FW, will this work for you? fez758 18.04.2007 22:27 It's still a no go. I uninstalled the ZA and turned the XP firewall on and it still did the same thing. I turned the XP firewall off and tried the KAV alone and it still didn't work. I don't know what else to do. I looked through all the settings of the KAV and nothing has helped. Don Pelotas 18.04.2007 23:10 What did you change from the default recommended settings? Fix some iChat connection problems Apr 18, '12 07:30:00AM • Contributed by: kirkmc There are days when I cannot connect to iChat's servers - well, actually to the AIM servers that iChat uses. The fix is simple yet odd. I http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120417033810112 use SSL with iChat, and all it takes to get the connection is to http://canada.aol.com/copland/triton/help/Troubleshooting_AIM_Triton/Using_AIM/Message_IM-0003_An_Unknown_Error_Occurred.htm turn it off. Go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts, click on your account, then click on the Server Settings tab. You must be offline to make changes here. If you have Use SSL checked, uncheck it, then connect. Disconnect, then reconnect it, if you still want to use SSL. I don't know why this works, but it does. • error occurred Currently 4.00 / 5 You rated: 1 / 5 (5 votes cast) [15,270 views] Hint Options Printable Hint Format Subscribe to 'macosxhints.com application tips' Fix some iChat connection problems | 2 comments | Create New Account Newest First Oldest First Flat Nested No Comments Threaded Click here to return to the 'Fix some iChat connection problems' hint The following comments are owned by whoever posted them. [ Reply to This | # ] Fix some iChat connection problems Authored by: Ralph Johns on Jun 19, '12 11:28:49AM Hi, iChat has always needed and manual reconnection to re-establish a lost SSL Connection. Since AIM introduced the option (Or rather it was added to the AIM side of iChat) the SSL servers AIM have had do not seem to maintain the same connection status as the regular AIM servers (i.e Drop outs are more frequent). One "Fix" is to turn SSL Off. The other is to Log the Account/Screen Name off the Aim servers Fully (iChat Preferences Untick "Use this Account") then Log back In again. Variants such as Logging in without SSL and then Logging Out and turning SSL On again can help when a Connection has been Lost due to external factors (you lost your internet Connection) due to the fact the iChat AIM.plist (com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist) will hold info about the Logged in state when it is in fact NOT Logged in. This "mismatch" of data between you and the AIM servers will get a refusal. The Longer variant we are discussing here will re-writ
