The following locations were searched: ~/Views/HotTowel/Error.aspx ~/Views/HotTowel/Error.ascx ~/Views/Shared/Error.aspx ~/Views/Shared/Error.ascx ~/Views/HotTowel/Error.cshtml ~/Views/HotTowel/Error.vbhtml ~/Views/Shared/Error.cshtml ~/Views/Shared/Error.vbhtml I was looking into this url http://doingthedishes.com/2011/09/10/custom-errors-mvc-3-elmah.html, where the author had the same issue but with asp.net mvc 3. After read it, I tried remove the call to HandleErrorAttribute: public class FilterConfig { public static void RegisterGlobalFilters(GlobalFilterCollection filters) { //filters.Add(new HandleErrorAttribute()); } } But the issue is still there: i can see my custom page but asp.net mvc is throwing two exceptions. Any help? the solution is rewrite a class derived from HandleErrorAttribute ? like this post: keep getting The view "Error" not found when using Elma

And you should be able to replace all internal error messages to nice user-friendly pages. It is a just nice for users - they are not getting splashes https://code.google.com/p/elmah/wiki/MVC of oil, when engine is exploded, also another measure to improve site security. There are lot of articles about error handling in ASP.Net MVC, but most of them error page do not cover the whole range. There is a very good resource on this, and I do recommend reading and understanding that first. With error handling there are a lot of edge cases, and for every single one of them you need to provide a solution, otherwise your error messages will talk too loud about your implementation and custom error page that can lead to security vulnerability. Upd 18/03/2016 There are a ton of similar articles on this topic. Here are some nice ones: Ben Foster - probably this one is the most comprehensive and worth reading first. Mahesh Sabnis Milevis Here is the list of edge cases I came up with: Exception thrown in controller Controller or controller action is not found Page not found, but outside of the MVC pipeline Exception in IIS pipeline Cases when IIS can't handle the request all together. Exception thrown in controller. When exceptions are thrown in your code, most of the time they will be thrown in MVC pipeline and handled by MVC error handling mechanisms. First of all you need enable CustomErrors in web.config:
MVC Updated Dec 25, 2011 by azizatif Note: Since ASP.NET MVC 1.0 ignores .axd rules by default this Guide has become mostly irrelevant. For detailed installation instructions look at the DotNetSlackers Article. Setting up ELMAH on MVC is really simple since most of the work is done in web.config that is more or less shared between MVC and Webforms. There are already excellent (and more detailed) articles in this Wiki on how to configure and fine tune ELMAH. This Article is intended to provide a quick and simple tutorial on the most important steps to get ELMAH up and running on MVC. (For advanced users seeking MVC-specific information, skip ahead to Step 4) Step 1: Referencing the assembliesFirst, grab the latest binary release of elmah from the project’s page and extract the bin folder. ELMAH requires no GAC installation, so you can drop the contents of the bin to any location of your liking (although I usually recommend using a lib folder to store external dependencies) and reference the Elmah.dll from within your app. Step 2: Edit your web.config to call ELMAHFirst add the following code to your
