to buy the software. This is going to set me back about $90. It’s worth it to me to get the data(serves me right for not backing up my data as often as I should), but I hate to shell out the cash if I’m just missing something simple that would let me access the drive. Thank you in advance for your advice, I’ve found the comments on this site invaluable over the years. System Specs. I created all kinds of boot disks to get 600+ pictures and videos from our hols this summer and could see and read the data. I couldn't for the life of me get the laptop to recognise usb2 and was left to copying in usb1 mode at 2.5-5mb per picture this was taking too long. i have removed the drive and placed on a usb -sata dongle and found this tip in www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=158047 use RUN and cmd in dos window - then type chkdsk [drive:] /r which should perform a more thorough check...some claim instant results...running now and will post results acl 20 Septem

Error performing inpage operation." This computer is not networked and has error performing never been on the Internet. We do transfer some files back and forth, but I've been updated with McAfee automatically, and I've scanned everything (I know that does not guarantee a lack of a virus, but it's as close as I can get). This is my girlfriend's computer, it hasn't been backed up in a few weeks, and I'll be sleeping in the garage if I botch the data recovery on it. Most of her data consists of images - error performing inpage TIFFs, JPEGs, and Photoshop formats. The only tinkering I've done on her machine (and my desktop, which also had a similar crash) is to install Windows 2000 sp4. I've read a couple of boards that report a similar problem with sp4, although there seemed to be a decent lag (at least a week) betwen installing sp4 & the error. I've also transferred some of my files onto her computer via a USB flash drive. Any ideas on reading & repairing the drive? It makes a consistent, short crunching sound whien I double click on it, and then the error message comes up after about 15 seconds. I'm very inexperienced in the area of data recovery, so if you have suggestions, please angle them more toward the Beginner end of the spectrum. 0 Question by:roeperdan Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 67 Active today Best Solution bysirbounty Another possibilty ericpete...it could be a partition - Disk Mgt will show you that as well.
