The problem with this is that ' is actually a valid entity! For some reason libxml2 is trying to parse it with xmlParseCharRef and not xmlParseEntityRef (which would have worked). Libpurple has no control (as far as I can tell) of this at all. This actually works fine on my machine; I wonder if there is a bug in the version of libxml2 that you have or something. comment:2 Changed 9 years ago by Messie Can you tell me your 'libxml2' version? I check it. My is 2.6.30 comment:3 Changed 9 years ago by datallah I'm also using libxml2 2.6.30 (2.6.30.dsfg-2ubuntu1) from ubuntu gutsy. comment:4 Changed 9 years ago by Messie I've deleted contact with ' and now have this error: (12:49:47) util: Reading file blist.xml from directory /home/aandrosov/.purple (12:49:47) xmlnode: Error parsing xml file: xmlParseCharRef: invalid xmlChar value 2 (12:49:47) util: Error parsing file /home/aandrosov/.purple/blist.xml. years ago Closed 9 years ago #4756 closed defect (duplicate) error reading blist.xml (yahoo.com) Reported by: rchi Owned by: lschiere Milestone: Component: unclassified Version: 2.3.1 Keywords: Cc: Description I am getting the following error while starting Pidgin 2.3.1 on English XP/SP2. "An error has encountered reading your buddy list. They have not been loaded, the old file has been renamed to ....." Pidgin starts with a fresh blist.xml, downloads the list of contacts from yahoo.com, and sure enough, next start triggers the exact same error again. Something about the yahoo contact list is confusing Pidgin. This is pretty serious as this file gets reset which is not good. I have uploaded both the error message screenshot, as well as the blist.xml file in question. Thanks! My guess is something about the yahoo contact list (one group name is in Chinese) confuses pidgin. Changed 9 years ago by rchi Attachment pidgin.log added pidgin -d log comment:2 Changed 9 years ago by datallah The issue is related to your group that is called "uFriends". I'm not sure what it is supposed to be, but presumably we're encoding it incorrectly. comment:3 Changed 9 years ago by rchi The group name is in Chinese. It might be created by yahoo china by default. I removed that group and now the blist.xml file gets loaded successfully. Strangely, I have contacts that are also in Chinese. So perhaps the error only happens when the group is in Chinese? Is this in anyway related to Ticket #4610? Because I see the same xmlParseCharRef() function call in the log file. comment:4 Changed 9 years ago by Sim-on Resolution set to duplicate Status changed from new to closed #767, #4610 Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets. I was using gaim on Feisty before and its was replaced with pidgin upon upgrade to Gutsy. I see the same issue on Windows too. And there too I was using Gaim before. I suspect there might be something that is left over from the old gaim configuration that causes this.
