Hi all, I have registered keys in the registry for impersonation for my application (asp.net 2.0 running in IIS 7.0)
My keys are created under "wow6432node" When I am trying to browse the web page it is giving "Error reading configuration information from the registry" error. I gave permissions for NETWORK SERVICE, MACHINE\ASPNET account and then did iisreset. My application is enabled for 32 bit in application pool. I tried with both "HKLM\SOFTWARE\........." and"HKLM\Software\wow6432node\MY_SECURE_APP\.......". I have read most of the threads and applied solutions. But still no luck. Is the encryption option applicable to asp.net 2.0? (It supports 1.1) Please help me in solving the issue. Jul 06, 2010 03:30 PM|Bruce L|LINK If what you wish is to secure your application, I don't think putting the username / password in the registry and impersonate is a good idea. You should just encrypt the web.config impersonation setting. We have set up a impersonation on our web application. The service accounts credentials are stored in the registry. This user account is passed to our SQL Server. IIS6 has no need for application impersonation - you can configure the process identity per application using app pools. i think this setreg approach http://www.thecodingforums.com/threads/error-reading-configuration-information-from-the-registry.768497/ is cumbersome... --------------------------------------- Dominick Baier - DevelopMentor http://www.leastprivilege.com > We have set up a impersonation on our web application. They created a single user per database and added the user’s encrypted credentials to our registries. I kno

I'm reading through the instructions it says to create an asp.net impersonation account but it doesn't give any details on how (because apparently it's different for each version of Windows). Does anyone know how to create something like this so I can get this app up and running? Sorry, I'm a little vague.
