At the end of the installation it pops a warning saying Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly. Error reading file C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\data\postgresql.conf I checked for the file postgresql.conf in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\data and found that it does not exist. I also found that there is not much under the data folder except for pg_log folder which is also empty. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? postgresql-9.2 share|improve this question edited Jun 22 '13 at 10:16 a_horse_with_no_name 185k24234311 asked May 24 '13 at 8:07 user1872530 3711411 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote I recommend you to try following, it worked for me: Make sure that the user that is logged in to the server has full control permissions for the postgres folder and it's sub-folders. Forum Index » PostgreSQL Installers for Windows, Linux and OS X Author Message 14 Jan 2015 08:47:47 Subject: Win7x64Pro 9.4 Installer has error reading postgresql.conf *solution* sgennaria New member Joined: 14 Jan 2015 08:32:30 Messages: 1 Offline Hi all, Just thought I'd share a solution I found after a day of headaches with the 9.4 windows installer on my Win7x64 Pro build. Each time I tried to install, I received an error at the end that read: "Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly Error reading file C:/ProgramFiles/PostgreSQL/9.4/data/postgresql.conf " This problem occurred even if I tried to install outside of the ProgramFiles folder, as some people have suggested. Upon looking at the .../PostgreSQL/9.4 folder, I noticed that the data subfolder had not been created at all. After digging into the initcluster.vbs script used by the installer, I found that the data folder creation error code returned as 424. After looking into this error code, I attempted to modify the folder creation part of the script but it failed again, this time with error code 429. This helped my research and I found a solution at this link (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/e4380048-4c84-4acb-ae5d-1c93579ad55d/receiving-message-runtime-error-429-activex-component-cant-create-object-in-windows7-system?forum=w7itprogeneral). The solution that worked for me was: Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. Type the following command and hit ENTER: %systemroot%\system32\regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\scrrun.dll If you're using Windows 7 64-bit Edition, run this command as well: %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\scrrun.dll After these steps, the installer ran perfectly without any modifications.
