When I try to upload the courses that I saved from my old moodle site, I get "error reading database". I also get the same error sometimes when I try to access the page. It also happens at other times when I am setting up the site. I read the moodle documentation about this at http://docs.moodle.org/24/en/Errors_FAQ but there is nothing there that helps me. I really need to get this fixed so that my students can use it. Any ideas, anybody? Thanks a lot. To ask this user for more information, please first login. To submit an answer, please login. We are happy to help, but will need more information to help troubleshoot the issue, since "error reading database" is a very general error. Is there any additional information with the error, such as an error code? Can you provide the error? What steps are you taking to import the classes? This will help us replicate the error. Have you read the official moodle guide on importing your data, or migrating your site? We also have a helpful tutorial on moving your website to us, if you are migrating a whole website. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank

I am able to successfully restore a course 1.8MB in size. I have been searching around for solutions to my problem and the closest I came http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22027840/error-reading-from-database-in-moodle to solving it is this thread https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=230681 but I haven't been able to work out how to set parameters for MySQL as it appears it is related to max_allowed_packet setting in my.cnf file. any help would be greatly appreciated. The version of PHP I am running is 4.0.8, latest stable version: 4.1.8 and I have access from WHM as well as CP Many thanks. ruth@whitewitch.ie parameters my.cnf share|improve this question asked Feb 25 '14 at 22:44 user3353411 111 Add some code to your question showing exactly where you have problems. –Verdolino Feb 25 '14 at 23:02 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Just update MySQL :) and run install script again :) share|improve this answer answered May 25 at 13:33 Mohammed Ansari 111 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I had a similar error ("error reading from database") and after long day unsuccessful search I realised that the drive on which MySql was running had ran out of space. When I freed up space it went back to normal. You
