Quite a few directories on the hard drive became inaccessible, files became unreadable and sometimes I can't even delete or create new files/folders. I scheduled a boot-time check disk on my portable hard drive but when it reaches 7 percent it says error reading folder (NULL) and terminates the operation. Could anyone please explain what this error means, I have searched the Internet and I am not the only one receiving this error but no one knows what it means. The scan disc runs thru about 15% and then errors "error reading folder (null). " The computer continues to boot and runs fine. The problem started after error reading I tried to run scan disk and the program stopped with a message "need access to windows components....can't per form now....do you want to run at next start up..." so I clicked yes and my life took a turn for the worse..... Can anyone tell me what the error is and how to fix it or at least stop error reading folder scan disc from running every time??? I use XP pro and boot as the admin...I am the only user... Thanks, Kodek Originally posted by kodek 10-23-2003, 12:13 PM Anonymous (303291002) replied to Anonymous (303291001) Anonymous scan disc at startup won't stop Locked My guess is that Check Disk (XP doesn't have Scandisk) isn't Automatically fixing the errors it finds. Try this. My Computer / Right Click the Problem Drive / Properties / Tools Tab / Check Now Button / Check both the "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" / Start You'll probably get message saying that it will be done on the next boot. Go ahead and reboot and let it run to completion. Boot again to see if it's fixed. dimbulb running WinXP Pro- if you're looking for a perfect OS; you're on the wrong planet.Originally posted by dimbulb 10-23-2003, 6:48 PM Anonymous (303291003) replied to Anonymous (303291001) Anonymous scan disc at startup won't stop Locked http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/tips/july02/kbtip1.aspOriginally posted by Tyreman 10-24-2003, 7:04 AM Anonymous (303291004) replied
