I’m having a problem regarding the Visual SourceSafe. Before this it works perfectly. The problem arises when one of the developers claiming that they can’t access the VSS (previously was OK). It says “Error reading from file”. Before this, usually if there’s an error regarding VSS it must be the pointing from client to the srcsafe.ini file at server is not correct. To solve this, just create a new path and point it to the file. I already done this but the error still occur. For you information, I already restarted the server machine twice but the same thing happen. Basically, we did a backup every night for the Visual Source Safe, and I did try for the backup for previous night and it seems fine (I restore the backup on local). Is there something wrong with the VSS? My last question is, if I run the Analyze.exe through the current database, what should I do when it prompt some data having error (like maybe it says unable to read the data) Should I remove it, maybe this is the data that causes the developers can’t access the VSS. Please. P/s I’m sorry I didn’t arise this problem in the forum, since this is critical and all the developers code are inside the VSS.

Please let us know if this helps. -grigori Friday, January 06, 2006 1:40 AM Moderator All repthe command prompt, type: analyze -f

You really should get thelatest service pack 6(http://msdn.microsoft.com/ssafe/downloads/sp/default.asp) and try onceagain. If after installing that and running analyze -f again doesn't help, you may need to call Microsoft Product Support. One other thing: check all error reading from components of your network. This doesn't seemlikely since all clients experience the problem. The best way to check thisis to see if the reading from file problem appears when you try theoperation on the same machine as the one where the database resides. If thatworks, then check all the network components, starting with the NIC on thecomputer where the database is.JoePost by languyHi there,- one particular folder in our project- various of files in other folders.Analyze Visual SourceSafe Version 6.0 (Build 8987)No errors or inconsistencies found. We are using VSS 6.0 Build 8163 with VC++, Notepad and other text editors,InterterDev on a Win2K server with Win2K and WinXP Pro clients. It happens for all the clients, which are accessing the sourcesafe and evenwhen I'm using VSS locally on the computer where the VSS database isinstalled. Thanks in regards,Jess languy 2003-12-15 15:02:48 UTC PermalinkRaw Message Excellent, it seems to fix the problems when I installed the SP6and ran analyze -fThanks for your helpJessPost by Joe MastersYou seem to have th
