Some basic websites (ones that have only text, no forms, iframes, etc) work most of the time. Others, especially links I try to navigate to from google, don't work. Either the window will "load" all black, and the statusbar says "OK" like it's done loading, or the transfer speed will steadily drop to 0 bytes/sec and eventually says "error reading from socket". I can't remember if I had to add any trickery, I think the configure script just worked.
