I solved the problem! I am replying to myself so others would know what i did. My client calls showing signs of pressure. I leave my workplace and rush to see him. Original problem : ERROR READING GENERAL FILE FOR MODULE 4 1. I create a new company 2. I restore backup from a previous date and try opening company I now get the following error situation: "One or more data files in this company's directroy belong to a different company or have been copied into the directory by mistake. please restore your company data and try again or contact peachtree technical support" 3. I close peachtree and carry out the folowing steps: - I click start button, then RUN - I type C:\peachw\peachtree.exe - i and OK (This starts peachtree with integrity checker on) 4. I close all companies, and then click File and select Repair Company After repairing company, my client's data is restored. __________________ Ignore rules, be creative! __________________ Lorin Browning Licensed by the U S Department of Treasury as Enrolled Agent Licensed by S C Board of Accountancy as Accounting Practitioner Web site: www.lorinbrowning.com E-mail to: lorin@lorinbrowning.com Lorin Browning View Public Profile Visit Lorin Browning's homepage! It may correct your problem. Peachtree lover wrote: > We are getting an error in module 4 > > We are unable to restore previous backup. As you suggested, I restored a previous copy of the general.dat file. We were able to open up the company. I am told that the particular general.dat file we used may pre-date a year-end close of the company. We received I/O errors on several files(chart.dat, invcost and lineitem. The error message suggested we run an integrity check. In addition, when we look at all the invoice transactions, it shows data from 01/99 thru 9/03. I will try the integrity check and see what happens. By the way I am backing things up each step of the way. Thanks again "John W." <> wrote in message news:<>... > This error can occur in General.Dat. Can you at least restore just this > one file from your prior backup? If so, restore it.
