[OK] Cause Third party software (WinZIP) does not handle filenames which end in ".TAR.TAR" correctly. Resolving the problem Workaround: Rename the ".TAR.TAR" file to ".TAR.GZ". For example, rename "C8_Cont_8_4_Win32_FP001.tar.tar" to "C8_Cont_8_4_Win32_FP001.tar.gz" Extract this .TAR.GZ file with WinZip. Fix: Use winrar alternative compression software to extract the ".TAR.TAR" file. TIP: There are several compatible software products available. IBM do not specifically recommend any one product, although one popular freeware product (used by many customers) is '7-Zip'. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement shelley Thread Starter Joined: Nov 14, 1999 Messages: 563 I tried downloading MIME::Lite from CPAN's site but got the following message when I tried to extract the files using Winzip ~ "Error reading header after processing 0 entries" The files have the extension .tar.gz.tar. What am I missing here ? shelley, Mar 3, 2004 #1 Sponsor eddie5659 Moderator Malware Specialist Joined: Mar 19, 2001 Messages: 29,800 Hiya Not fully sure, but aren't gz.tar files something to do with Linux? http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21403948 Like I say, may be wrong. I assume this is where you got them: http://search.cpan.org/dist/MIME-Lite/ Which one did you download? Was it the MIME-Lite-3.01_03 or MIME-Lite-3.01 at the top? Regards eddie eddie5659, Mar 3, 2004 #2 shelley Thread Starter Joined: Nov 14, 1999 Messages: 563 I think it's Unix but there wasn't an option to download any other way. I downloaded 3.01. I tried other builds with the same result. Maybe I need to upload the zipped file to the https://forums.techguy.org/threads/resolved-opening-a-tar-file-with-winzip.208632/ server and open it there, though I still don't know how to open it. shelley, Mar 3, 2004 #3 eddie5659 Moderator Malware Specialist Joined: Mar 19, 2001 Messages: 29,800 Ah, found out WinRar will unzip tar files: http://www.rarlab.com/ eddie eddie5659, Mar 3, 2004 #4 shelley Thread Starter Joined: Nov 14, 1999 Messages: 563 Thanks for the link, Eddie, but there must be another way to resolve this which doesn't mean spending $29! If it's just a case of finding a .tar unzipper then I guess I can make a search for a freebie. I thought it may be something else, like a setting in Winzip I'd missed, or some download corruption. shelley, Mar 3, 2004 #5 hewee Joined: Oct 26, 2001 Messages: 57,628 IZArc is free and will open .tar and many other formats. We get many requests from people who only need a single file from their backups and we keep all the backups on harddrives connected to windows computers. When you say "unpacked properly" - what is happening that leads you to make the implication these tools are unpacking these files improperly? #2 cPanelDavidG, Jan 8, 2009 thernes Active Member Joined: Dec 29
