Error Reading Header After Processing 0 Entries
2001 Messages: 29,800 Hiya Not fully sure, but aren't gz.tar files something to do with Linux? Like I say, may be wrong. I assume this is where you got them: http://search.cpan.org/dist/MIME-Lite/ Which one did you download? Was it the MIME-Lite-3.01_03 or MIME-Lite-3.01 at the top? Regards eddie eddie5659, Mar 3, 2004 #2 shelley Thread Starter Joined: Nov 14, 1999 Messages: 563 I think it's Unix but there wasn't an option to download any winzip unable to read header in tar other way. I downloaded 3.01. I tried other builds with the same result. Maybe I need to upload the zipped file to the server and open it there, though I still don't know how to open it. shelley, Mar 3, 2004 #3 eddie5659 Moderator Malware Specialist Joined: Mar 19, 2001 Messages: 29,800 Ah, found out WinRar will unzip tar files: http://www.rarlab.com/ eddie eddie5659, Mar 3, 2004 #4 shelley Thread Starter Joined: Nov 14, 1999 Messages: 563 Thanks for the link, Eddie, but there must be another way to resolve this which doesn't mean spending $29! If it's just a case of finding a .tar unzipper then I guess I can make a search for a freebie. I thought it may be something else, like a setting in Winzip I'd missed, or some download corruption. shelley, Mar 3, 2004 #5 hewee Joined: Oct 26, 2001 Messages: 57,628 IZArc is free and will open .tar and many other formats. As far as I know, there are cases in which browser prevents automatic open of a zip file. Try right clicking on the link to the file and choose 'save link as' then, onec saved, open it with Winzip. It should work.... Please let me know... That's what I did though - saved it then tried to open it. I haven't had any trouble with winzip before, though I've never tried to open a .tar file, only zips and cads. I'd be grateful for an
185 Last updated: 11 Apr, 2012 Print Email to friend Views: 64238 Frequently, the problem with corrupted self-extractors (and corrupted .zip files, as well) is that an error has been introduced into the file during download (e.g., by phone line http://kb.winzip.com/kb/entry/185/ noise). Normally, downloading the file again resolves the problem. If, however, repeated attempts to download the http://www.smarty.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=42730&sid=6caccc188edbdc47165f9e04c54a2804 file do not result in a good copy, your computer may be infected by a virus. In mid-1998, a new virus named CIH was released (it first showed up in Taiwan in June, 1998). Other names for this virus include "W95.CIH", "Chernobyl", and "Spacefiller". This virus has been reported in a large number of executable files, including self-extracting Zip files created using error reading WinZip Self-Extractor. This is not a problem in the WinZip or WinZip Self-Extractor applications distributed by WinZip Computing. Rather, the problem is that the self-extractor you're trying to run may have been infected with this virus. All executable files are susceptible to virus infection, and since self-extractors are executable files, they are susceptible to virus infection, as well. An executable file can become infected with a virus such as CIH in at least three ways: Your computer is itself error reading header actively infected, and when you copied the executable to your computer (e.g., via download or from a floppy disk), or otherwise processed it, the executable became infected with the virus. The person who created the executable (i.e., the self-extractor) did so on a computer where the virus was active, so that the original copy of the self-extractor was infected. The executable passed through an infected computer on its journey from the original source computer to your computer. The symptoms of virus infection can vary. Sometimes, there is no visible symptom at all until the virus destroys enough data on your computer that the computer no longer functions properly. With self-extractors created using WinZip Self-Extractor, the "corrupt header" message occurs in many cases when these self-extractors are run on computers infected with CIH. (This may serve as a kind of "early warning" that your computer is infected. You should not, however, assume that the absence of such a message means that your computer is clean.) If you suspect your computer is infected with the CIH virus (or with any other virus), we recommend that you run a reliable virus scanner with the latest virus updates. It is also a good precaution to virus scan all executable files, including self-extracting Zip files, you receive from any source that you do not trust absolutely. As far as we know, the current versions of Norton AntiVirus, AV

With WinRar, the actual official archive works fine. If that all don't work, you can either ask someone of your trust to download and repack the file, or get the actual version via CVS directly from the repository, as statet on http://smarty.php.net/download.php.
