Error Reading Information On Service Postgresql No Such File Or Directory
Tim. Following the suggested HOWTO, I get this: > > # /sbin/chkconfig telnet on > error reading information on service telnet: No such file or directory ---- The instructions clearly state that you would have to install telnet-server package. Since you give no indication, one can only guess at what you are trying to do and it seems less likely that you want to install and run standard telnet package on a non-standard port and more likely that you are trying to have some process/listener waiting for a connection on port 9734, in which case, my previous reply is likely to have the information you need. When I try to get in using Telnet from a Windows XP machine, I get the following message: "Could not open connection to the host, on port 23. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." As telnet is inherently unsecure because everything is sent in plain text, All distros come with telnet disabled by default, and in place they use ssh ssh is far more secure, is SECURE, and can be used to make transfers also. to download a free client for ssh, get PuTTY: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html but, if you insist in use telnet, then type this command as root: chkconfig telnet on and it should begin to answer you on port 23 BTW: ssh port is the 22 go, made yourself a ssh fan. it's safe, compress the data so is faster, and is simple. 0 Message Author Comment by:Adamleven2002-11-30 Redimido, I tried chkconfig telnet on and got Error reading information on service telnet: no such file or directory. 0 LVL

If you installed it using yum install then the init script name is not vncts but vncserver so that's what you need to use. If you didn't install it using yum install then, congratulations, you just broke your system, undo all the changes you made and then use yum install instead.
