I've seen several others with the "NAV packet" error but haven't seen a solution that works for me yet. I'm testing with three different commercial DVD's; one works great (menus and all), one plays the FBI warning then stops with an error, a third doesn't work at all (hit play, get an error!). Also, my own home movie DVD's work just fine. Here is http://forums.justlinux.com/showthread.php?135517-Need-help-with-Xine-playing-DVD-s the error those latter DVD's give me: "The source can't be read. Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data (e.g. not disc in drive). (Error reading NAV packet.)" ...clicking on the "More..." button reveals a few more messages. Most of these seem benign, but a series of messages say: "audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type: 04000000" (the number tends to change) Based upon other suggestions from this forum and others regarding similar problems, I've taken the following steps: - Tried xine-check from the command line. Everything returns "good". I've included the output at the bottom if it is of interest. - I've loaded the DVD libraries: libdvdcss libdvdnav libdvdplay libdvdread (I've even loaded the development packages like libdvdcss-devel, etc) - I tried Mplayer: It has the same results (plays one of my DVD's but not the others) - I tried Ogle. It plays only the audio of my first DVD and just shuts itself down when trying to play the other two. - I checked the permissions on my dvd device: /dev/hdc: brw-r--r-- /dev/dvd (which is linked to /dev/hdc): lrwxrwxrwx /dev/cdrom (which is also linked to /dev/hdc): lrwxrwxrwx Any thoughts as to why I would be having these issues? Thanks, BS ------------------------------------ Output of xine-check: Please be patient, this script may take a while to run... [ good ] you're using Lin
packet but none found" error on some downloaded DVD's By halfgaar | On June 19, 2009 at 18:06 | 6 comments With certain DVD's, Xine fails when seeking in the movie saying "Expected NAV packet but none found". It seems that I have http://blog.bigsmoke.us/2009/06/19/fixing-expected-nav-packet-but-none-found-error-on-some-downloaded-dvds finally found out how to fix this and it is not even difficult. If the theory https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/471039-12-1-DVD-Playback-error is correct, it only happens with DVD's obtained as an ISO image. What you need to do, is mount the image over the loopback, copy the data files to another location and playing those copied files should work. You can then burn them to a video DVD if you want to, of course. I have no idea why this works or what causes the error, error reading but I'm glad I finally figured it out. Also, some of these DVD's don't even play on normal players (so it's not just Xine). This should fix that as well, but I have yet to test that. (permalink) Comment by Rowan Rodrik On July 10, 2009 at 11:30 I love how in a blog you can just keep an issue dangling open like this… Hopefully, one day, someone will come here from a Google search, and think: "Shit, this won't work, but let's keep this tab open so I can tell this dude the solution when I do find it." I know that I sometimes do this when I'm researching a problem. To not lose the URLs, I sometimes even start my own draft with a few links in the vein of: "I'm not the only one to suffer this problem as can be gather from this, this and that post." (permalink) Comment by Liam Joseph Mania On December 3, 2012 at 11:58 I just got onto this issue today and i can't seem to find a solution other than playing the movie in my windows machine using "Media Player Classic" So I'm guessing it's something to do with how my linux system deals with encryption. (permalink) Comment by halfgaar On December 8, 2012 at 12:25 It's not a CSS (content scrambling system) issue. At least, mine weren't, because the files weren't encrypted with CCS. Did you try my trick? (permalink) Comment by L.E. Shantz On September 4, 2013 at 19:50 This appears to be an encryption issue, at least sometimes. I have the original disk from the movie house. I took the shrink wrapping off! It
