By combining a transparent upgrade path from 132 MB/s (32-bit at 33 MHz) to 528 MB/s (64-bit at 66 MHz) and both 5 volt and 3.3 volt signalling environments, the PCI bus meets the needs of both low end desktop systems as well as that of high-end LAN servers. The PCI bus component and http://wiki.osdev.org/PCI add-in card interface is processor independent, enabling an efficient transition to future processors, as well as use with multiple processor architectures. The disadvantage of the PCI bus is the limited number of electrical loads it can drive. A single PCI bus can drive a maximum of 10 loads. (Remember when counting the number of loads on the bus, a connector counts as one load and the PCI device counts as another, and sometimes two.) Configuration Space The PCI specification provides for totally software driven initialization and configuration of each device (or target) on the PCI Bus via a separate Configuration Address Space. All PCI devices, except host bus bridges, are required to provide 256 bytes of configuration registers for this purpose. Configuration read/write cycles are used to access the Configuration Space of each target device. A target is selected during a configuration access when its IDSEL signal is asserted. The IDSEL acts as the classic "chip select" signal. During the address phase of the configura

I error reading believe this is related to the PXE-E05 error : This message is displayed if the NIC EEPROM contents have been corrupted. This can happen if the system is reset or powered down when the NIC EEPROM is being reprogrammed. If this message is displayed the PXE ROM will not boot. This should not happen with a production BIOS and properly operating hardware.Click to expand... that I received a couple of times. Aswell as "Operating system not found". After disabling the LAN on the Boot Menu I managed to get XP to start. I reboot, enabled the LAN & got XP back up again so I could find it in Device Manager. Of course it had the yellow question mark but figured this was good as now maybe I could do something with it. While playing around on my own computer searching for solutions I could clearly see the Device Manager on her Laptop refreshing every 20 seconds or so & losing the Intel(R) Pro/1000 PL Network Connection, like it would just disappear then 20 seconds later reappear. Will this be hardware or software related? I have downloaded another driver for the Intel Pro/1000 PL with no noticeable difference from the Toshiba website. Unfortunately as she has no LAN adapter available she can not access the Net to dow

Then the screen switches to say "No operating system installed" Then if I press cntrl-alt-delete, it will boot winXP. this is duo core Tecra A7 toshiba laptop. This does not happen every time. Also if the built-in LAN is disabled , the boot is always ok. The LAN is at the bottom of the boot order list in the bios settings. ALSO, I was occasionally experiencing a weird hang every second while in XP. everything would stop, mouse etc... sound would go blurpppp. Only fix was a reboot. All of this is related to the intel pro 1000 PL LAN card. I upgraded the pro1000 pl driver to the latest intel driver from their site (2008). And now no weird hangs every second. Also, the laptop was shutting the
