The VMware devices are monitored by a remote PRTG probe in the same site (and IP subnet) as the VMware hosts. I am decommissioning the server the PRTG probe is installed on, so have installed a new remote PRTG probe in the same site. When I move the devices to the new probe many of the sensors alarm with the message "Error reading response: missing /prtg". If I move the device back to the original probe then the alarms clear. Both remote probes are running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard in 64bit. Any ideas? If not, please install the same and the error should clear. Many thanks for the super-fast response! Best regards Paul Add comment Created on Oct 15, 2012 10:15:03 AM by Paul Huxham (0) ●1 Permalink Please log in or register to enter your reply. We do know this error message and we can explain it for vmware and soap, but we can't explain it for wmi. Is it maybe possible that your wmi sensors do show a different error message? Please install dotNet 3.5 next to dotNet 4.0 and install the windows updates for the dotNet Frameworks. Does it work now? If this doesn't help please open a command prompt and change the working directory to the "sensor system" directory within the prtg installation directory. Then run the following command and send the result to our support team. SipOptionsPingSensor.exe -ip=[ip] -port=[port] -user=[username] -pw=[password] -timeout=5 -retry=5 Please replace the placeholders in []. Deleting them and re-discovering works for a few hours but ultimately the sensors return to a failed state. Error Message: Error reading response: Invalid XML (missing /prtg) Add comment Created on Jul 31, 2014 6:11:57 PM by AndyReedy (21) ●1 Permalink Votes:0 Your Vote: Up Down This could be related to an issue we had with these sensors previously in that the error messages produced by VMWare weren't read correctly by PRTG and as a result this error came out of PRTG. Could you please try and update to the newest version and see if that resolves the issue?
