Truistic09-23-2003, 04:47 PMI have a COM+ application built with unmanaged Visual C++ 2003 that I am trying to create an installation kit for and am having numerous problems. InstallShield's documentation on this type of project is extremely lacking so I am hoping for some assistance from someone with real-world experience. I'm trying to create a setup kit for a COM+ server application. I create a Basic MSI project, set the Project settings, create a feature and add a component for EACH dll in the COM+ server application, adding the dll for each component. I then go to System Configuration, Component Services and check the COM+ application I am wanting to use for this setup kit. I build the setup kit and run it on a virgin machine. After it starts to install, I get the following error message: "Error 1928.Error registering COM+ application. Contact your support personnel for more information." Why? How am I supposed to deploy a COM+ application? Advanced questions: 1. Can InstallShield create the security roles for the COM+ application? (Exporting them from the existing COM+ app?) 2. How can I prompt the user installing my application for the user account that the COM+ application should run under, and set it to run under that account? Will all of this have to be done manually? what is the point of the Component Services in InstallShield if it cannot do the above? David Thornley09-23-2003, 05:05 PMError 1928 is thrown by MSI's COM+ installation mechanism and not the COM+ installation mechanism added by InstallShield to DevStudio. Please make sure you that the ComPlus table is empty in the direct editor and that you are not launching any external MSI packages exported by COM+. You may be making it more difficult than it needs to be. All you have to do is click the box in the Co
