all that stuff. The downloaded program files are the .exes that are not needed after installation (a bit like .zip folders after unzipping). And all those error reporting files have only historic value - unless you want to look up what happened in the past. Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top jd2066 Posts: 3814 This post has been reported. I would recommend against deleting those things. The 'Downloaded Program Files' folder stores downloaded ActiceX controls like Adobe Flash, Sun Java, etc and what types of files might you not want to delete during disk cleanup it's possible you would need to reinstall them if you cleared out that folder. Also I think the 'Windows error reporting' files are using by the 'Problems and Solutions' applet which will sometimes go out and find solutions to problems that are saved so it's helpful. And due to some bugs with the 'Disk Cleanup' I would recommend against using it at all as it doesn't save that much space but can cause many problems if used incorrectly. If I needed to, I would delete that stuff. But Justin has a good point: it is probably not worth the effort - and then the Disk Cleanup program is not kosher anyhow. I only have an 80GB boot drive so I really need that space. Since they are listed in Disk Cleanup I assume that they are safe to delete. My question windows error report is how do I stop Vista creating them in the first place? windows-vista hard-drive cleaning share|improve this question asked Jul 28 '09 at 19:54 Shane Kearney 59148 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted From Control Panel open System Maintenance Open Problem Reports and Solutions. In the left pane, click Change settings. Click Advanced Settings. Under "For my programs, problem reporting is:" Click Off Click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. From Problem Reports and Solutions Click Clear solution and problem history Note: Doing this means Microsoft (and hence the software manufacturer they pass the info to) will no longer receive notice of problems occurring on your computer. So you won't receive fixes for those problems either. share|improve this answer edited Jul 28 '09 at 20:07 answered Jul 28 '09 at 20:01 Kenneth Cochran 1,68411316 I'm not a Windows user, but that's a superb answer.
