This type of error reporting may be undesirable—particularly in environments that must adhere to very strict data privacy regulations. In these kinds of environments, you might want to completely disable this feature so that an admin doesn't accidentally choose to send an error report to Microsoft and possibly land you in hot water. To disable error reporting: Go to Start | Control Panel. Open the System control panel applet. From the System applet, choose the Advanced tab. Click the Error Reporting button. Choose the Disable Error Reporting option. (If you want to disable error reporting but still be notified about errors, select the check box next to But Notify Me When Critical Errors Occur.) One of the new features of Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003 is the error reporting feature that offers to send diagnostic information to Microsoft whenever an application or part of the system crashes. There are a number of reasons why you may want to reduce or turn this feature off, particularly if your computer is not connected to the Internet. You can choose to disable the reporting completely, or you can limit it to just the operating system errors or, just errors from certain programs of your choosing.
