system hangs or crashes, Windows 7 sends an error report to Microsoft by default. It will also spend time looking for a solution. (In my experience, it never seems to find one.) If https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754364(v=ws.11).aspx you find the error messages and the delay in closing down a hung application annoying or have concerns about privacy, you can turn off error reporting. Do be aware, however, that the error reporting function creates a local log file that sometimes can be useful for analyzing the causes of problems and this service will be lost. The procedure for disabling error reporting is quite simple. Here’s how: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-disable-error-reporting-windows-7.htm Open the Action Center. Either use the icon in the taskbar notification area or enter “action” (without quotes) in the Start search bar. See this previous tip for more details about the Action Center. Select “Change Action Center Settings” in the left panel of the Action Center dialog box. In the new dialog that opens, click “Problem Reporting Settings”. The window shown in the figure below will open. The four error reporting options are shown in the figure. If you want the setting to apply to all users, click “Change report settings for all users”. Otherwise, the setting will apply to the current user only. To disable error reporting, choose “Never check for solutions”. Microsoft labels this "not recommended" but the choice is up to you. It is the setting I use. Click “OK” and “OK” again. Then close the Action Center. Get your own favorite tip published! Know a neat tech tip or trick? From Windows 7 to 8.1, this was possible under "Action Center", however the Action Center is no longer in Windows 10 in the same form as it was in previous versions. It's now just a flyout with quick access buttons and notifications, with no Control Panel entry under the same name where it can be configured. I've searched both manually and using various keywords searching through the settings, but cannot find anything. In case it's of interest, I absolutely need to disable this, because this action overrides every single debugger on my machine. Before errors are caught up by debuggers, they are caught up by this, essentially making it impossible to code under Windows 10. As such, I was a little surprised to find that no one was raised this question yet. windows windows-10 windows-error-reporting share|improve this question edited Aug 5 '15 at 21:45 asked Aug 5 '15 at 8:32 user72945 Which version of Windows 10 are you using? Home/Pro? –JMB Aug 5 '15 at 8:55 @JMB Home, I think I found a solution manually editing registry keys. There is no option to disable it through any UI I can find in Home and group policy editor isn't available for home, as I'm sure you know. –user72945 Aug 5 '15 at 8:56 I'm on Pro, and I found that Error logging can be disabled in Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc), but I don't think that exists in Home. –JMB Aug 5 '15 at 8:58 Yeah it doesn't exist in Home unfortunately. I'm verifying my fix, will post as answer if it works. –user72945 Aug 5 '15 at 9:03 Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Troubleshooting >Change settings? –DavidPostill Aug 5 '15 at 10:45 | show 5 more comments 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes u
