SoftwareDistribution folder (after stopping Windows Update service): 1. Start | Run - net stop wuauserv 2. Rename folder 3. Start | Run - net start wuauserv Then perform a manual update. This will rebuild the database from scratch. NOTE: this will remove the Windows Update History information that is viewed on the Windows Update site. I noticed the errors after trying to determine why everytime I click "Start", then the red shutdown button to get the shutdown options, I have to wait nearly 3 minutes after clicking the red shutdown button before the options panel appears, all the while I have an hourglass mouse pointer and can do nothing else except bring up the Task Manager. Esent error message 2. Update issues- ESENT errors, please look at this fix.. We have 5000+ pc's, and just now I'm finding that some pc's are not downloading updates. Reviewing the event logs, I'm finding pc's have an error ESENT with event id 453 and 454. I did a bunch of research, and here's what I found.. this is due to a corrupt local database for windows update. I wrote a script that will fix this... and it works GREAT. After running it, pc's download updates immediately. Here's the issue. I ran ELOGDMP against our entire domain, and found 1600 pc's with this error. Likely not all are related to WSUS.. but the question is this. If I run this script as a LOGON script, it will fix all pc's... but it will hit pc's that are already "ok" and downloading updates. I need someone to look at this script.. would this be ok to run on a pc that is already downloading updates? Once this is done, will the pc re-download all required updates? Or will it just regenerate the local database?
