Routine details Cannot ask provider {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5} if volume is snapshotted. [0x8000ffff] [hr = 0x8000ffff]. Windows Server Backup runs nightly to backup the operating system. There is also a batch script event id 12293 vss server 2008 that runs nightly to copy the network storage files to an external drive using hobocopy (which can copy open files). There is no other backup software installed. There are three drive partitions: One for the operating system, one for data storage, and one as the Windows Server Backup location. The "Volume Shadow Copy" Windows service is set to manual and is in the "Started" state. If I run the command vssadmin list writers all the writers that are listed show Last Error: No error If I enter the command diskshadow and enter list providers: DISKSHADOW> list providers * ProviderID: {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5} Type: [1] VSS_PROV_SYSTEM Name: Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0 Version: 1.0.0.7 CLSID: {65ee1dba-8ff4-4a58-ac1c-3470ee2f376a} Number of providers registered: 1 The providerID matches the ID shown in the event log error messages. If I open "computer management", right click on "Shared Folders" > All Tasks > "Configure Shadow Copes", the properties windows displays an error message: Failed to retrieve volumes that are eligible for shadow copies.
