Slowing and unresponsive computer Started by GeraldUK , Jan 10 2010 11:07 AM Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next Please log in to reply 25 replies to this topic #1 GeraldUK GeraldUK Members 88 posts OFFLINE Local time:02:13 AM Posted 10 January 2010 - 11:07 AM Am using event id 1000 a desktop running XP Home SP3, 2g RAM. Over the last few weeks the response from clicking on an action has become slower and slower to the point of it not responding to the mouse clicks. In addition, my screen oddly plays up when booting producing technicolor patterns rather than the Microsoft splash screen. A hard boot seems to cure this, but I wonder if it is a warning sign that my monitor, or graphics card, is on the way out. (System is about 3 years old). The other night I left just Iexplorer running and from the Event log I saw the program became unresponsive and there was a message that I.E had turned off to protect computer ( or words to that effect). In the tray was a “Restore your computer” bar but I could not investigate as the arrow pointer turned into a double arrow when on the tray. Unable to get “Start”so I turned off and rebooted. At present, the system is slow to boot up: on my desktop the icons are there initially without colour and the colour comes slowly, one by one. In accessing Control Panel I oddly get the torch looking for the location screen frst. Event viewer picked up iexplorer being non-responsive in the early morning (when I was fast asleep in bed) and a few earlier nview_info errors without descriptions, otherwise nothing else as

How http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/285809/slowing-and-unresponsive-computer/ to work around the issue when opening Office applications repairs Visual Studio ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ May 29, 2009 by Heath Stewart (MSFT) // 27 Comments 0 0 0 Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1 customers have been reporting that when they start Outlook or any of the Office applications, VS2010 is repaired. This issue can also happen for VS2005 and VS2008, https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/heaths/2009/05/29/how-to-work-around-the-issue-when-opening-office-applications-repairs-visual-studio/ and for any products using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Besides being an annoyance and potentially taking a while to complete, the repair attempt can prompt for source. Picking the right source may not always be obvious from the dialog caption especially if it is truncated. And all the while Outlook or whichever application you started is probably waiting to finish starting up. Even if you successfully complete the repair operation, this issue may continue each time you start the same application. How to work around this issue Windows Installer logs an event that describes the requested feature and which product it is repairing. For this simple workaround, you need to find the latest event log entry. Using information in that event log entry, you’ll remove and re-add a feature and all its components into directory that should always be available. Click on Start Click on Run Type “eventvwr” (without quotes) and click OK. If you are prompted to elevated on Vista or newer, click Continue. Expand Windows Logs and click Application Find the r

I do have administrators access, but still cannot do it. Also on trying to uninstall any programs from my pc, i get NSIS error, error initializing uninstaller! event id Sally Vale, Apr 27, 2005 #1 jephree ¨*·.¸ «.·°·..·°·.» ¸.·*¨ As to uninstall issues: Download and run Ccleaner; http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html After you have done that go to "options" in Ccleaner, then "uninstall" ,then select the program you wish to uninstall. As to bluetooth is this the exact error: Error 1406. Could not write value VersionMinor to key \Products\B21788FC3A611A546B5CE8C60D06E816\InstallProperties. Verify that you have sufficient access event id 1 to that key, or contact your support personnel. [Abort] [Retry] [Ignore] This thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/6/122174 suggests just repeatedly pressing ignore & or updating your USB drivers. It also suggests a possible authentication issue. Also this in more general terms: Error 1406 As this applies to InstallShield it might involve both your issues. One of the recommendations being to download the latest version of Windows Installer which was released April 12. You will find it via Windows Update. Hope this helps. ___________________________________ Last edited: Apr 28, 2005 jephree, Apr 28, 2005 #2 Sally Vale Techie7 New Member Thank you, but no, that is not the full error message i get, it is as i said, literally just error 1406. could not write value to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE, verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel. I did download the ccleaner, and ran it, then went to the uninstall window, but i still got the NSIS error, error initializing uninstaller!! I have also had problems downloading updates from windows updates, and other various downloads as when they download, it then says cannot find file specified, i have ju
