Evolution Error While Scanning Folders In Imap
I run my own mail servers (Postfix and Dovecot) on localhost. This all worked great in F13 but now evolution refuses to connect to the localhost imap server. If I connect from my laptop (also F14) i.e. not from the localhost all works fine and great with evolution. I deleted all the config and started again to no avail. I also created a new user and logged in with this user and I still get the same so looks not to be user config issue. evolution --debug=evo.debug.txt returns nothing useful. Dovecot is listening on localhost as I can telnet to the imap port. Also other imap clients like Thunderbird work fine. Can't workout what is going on so any suggestions appreciated. Could this be a bug? Regards Daniel assen21st November 2010, 02:41 PMHi, You can check with tcpdump if Evo really attempts to connect to localhost or not; you can use wireshark to explore the dump in order to see what the IMAP server responds with. WWell, bart300521st November 2010, 03:34 PMHi Looks like no traffic, very strange. To make sure it was not a bug I installed up a VM and it works fine. I wonder if it is some strange NetworkManager issue as this box has nailed up network connections I do not use NM and have it not installed. After a while evo errors with this: Error while Scanning folders in "IMAP server 127.0.0.1". You must be working online to complete this operation Regards Daniel yariv21st November 2010, 07:52 PMUmm... I remember I saw this some where else before. Make sure that Evolution is Online, if it still fails, revert to Offline mode and try than. If it works in Offline mode, than something is making your Evolution think that its not on the same computer as the mail server. But keep in mind... Some mail server "hugs" the ports it needs. So it might just be the mail server not letting any thing use that port on the same computer, that might explain why you are able to connect to it from another machine. bart300523rd November 2010, 02:42 PMFixed this by dumping my home folder. I have separate storage for home folders and normally keep it between fresh install of Fedora. Something obviously causing issues. I did delete all the Evo config but must have missed something . vBulletin v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2016, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
Fri, 23 Mar 2007 16:46:03 -0500 I am using Evolution 2.01 on SuSE Pro 9.2 (I'll be upgrading both soon). Two of the accounts that I use Evo to read are AOL accounts that I keep for family reasons. This week, Evo has not been able http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-254859.html to fetch the AOL messages successfully. Each time I try, I get the following error message: ____ error while scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.aol.com" Server unexpectedly disconnected: Connection timed out. ____ The host for receiving mail is designated as https://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2007-March/msg00129.html imap.aol.com and the server for sending mail is set for smtp.aol.com:587 . I have gone to AOL and nothing appears amiss there. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve this problem. TIA. Kelly -- Kelly J. Morris

Whenever I press Send/receive it tries then I get 'Error while Scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.gmail.com" '. I've tried changing the ports etc, deleting the account from evolution and redoing it. I've looked thru various forums and walkthroughs. I've checked that the right password is stored in the keyring. I'm sure all my settings are right, but evolution can neither sync with my inbox nor send emails. I have synced my google contacts and calendar with evolution, however. I use my Gmail on a variety of devices so I don't want to use POP and in any case SMTP isn't working either. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 on an acer 5738 thru a not particularly fast ADSL connection.
