This address book cannot be opened. Please check that the path (null) exists and that permissions are set to access it. Detailed error message: Other error ================================================== == the main reason i believe it is doing this is because the emil settings were backed up from a 9.10 and installed to 9.04 9.10 has the "cloud" or ubuntu1 feature. 9.04 doesnt have this if i boot the pc with a 9.10 cd and restore the evolution data i can see the address book and all is well. if while i have the address book open in 9.10 that i booted from cd and save a contacts a a vcard and import it , it says it imported it, and gives no errors and you cant see any contacts listings. any ideas? thanks Ubuntu user # 16304 www.nocleanfeed.com If someone asks you to sudo rm -rf anything, don't do it, and don't run any command with rm in it unless you know exactly what you're doing.things i have learnt changing from Xp pro to Ubuntu Adv Reply December 21st, 2009 #2 stinger30au View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Ubuntu Cappuccino Scuro Join Date May 2007 Location Townsville, Australia Beans 1,820 DistroLubu
Mugs stopping spam Jun 4, 2009 I finally Got the Global Address To Work in Evolution for Jaunty! 12:00 AM El DiPablo This post is going to be relatively small and quick, but I thought I would put it out there because I had the damnedest time getting the Global Address list in Evolution to work in Ubuntu 9.04.First off let me say that I hate Evolution. I don't use it on my Linux machines at home at all! If only someone would make a good OWA plugin for Thunderbird, then things would be better! Until then, Evolution is the only Exchange game for 'nix systems in town.So back to my problem. I could not access the Global Address List! No matter what I put in, I would get an error saying https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1360448 that Evolution couldn't access the Global address list. Depending where I was in Evolution, here are the errors i got:Error Loading Address BookOr I would get this error:Error Loading Address book. This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable. It was my fault though, I mistakenly thought that I should be putting in the FQDN of the Exchange server were you input the URI for the Global Catalog Server. I also read somewhere that you http://www.bauer-power.net/2009/06/i-finally-got-global-address-to-work-in.html are supposed to put the URL of the OWA server. None of those worked. What did work though was putting in the FQDN of the local Domain Controller! If you don't know where to do that, click on Edit > Preferences. Select your Exchange account and press the Edit button.Click on the Receiving Options Tab, and under Global Catalog Server Name, input the FQDN of your local Domain Controller then click OK. You will have to restart Evolution for the changes to take effect. After I did that, I was able to access the GAL, and grab contacts straight from Active Directory! Now I believe this only works behind the corporate firewall. I am not quite sure what to do if you are wanting to access Exchange email from home on your Linux box. If you have gotten the GAL to open from outside of the network, hit me up in the comments to let me know what you did!Technorati Tags: evolution, exchange, gal, global address list, ubuntu, 9.04, jaunty jackelope Posted in: 9.04, evolution, exchange, gal, global address list, jaunty jackelope, ubuntu Newer Post Older Post Home Free Ubuntu Stickers Translate Saving The Internet Visitors Mainwashed Weekly Scoop Your browser does not support the audio element. The error is (I translated it on my own): unable to open address book. This is because you entered a wrong URI or the server is unavailable at the moment. Details: cannot open book: source already loaded! Sometimes, when I click the button 'reject error', it does load the evolution exchange error address book but when I return to Evolution after a while, it gives me the same error and sometimes I cannot load the address book. This is very annoying since I have to use Evolution a lot. evolution contacts gmail google address-book share|improve this question edited Sep 25 '12 at 15:32 BuZZ-dEE 6,610104163 asked Jun 19 '12 at 13:42 wouter205 143115 Not immediately a solution to your problem, but have you considered changing from evolution to thunderbird? I suppose you use 12.04(?) I also have a gmail account and changed from evolution to thunderbird upon upgrading from Lucid to Pangolin. Works very elegantly, and with lightning (the calendar addon), your gmail calender is also synced. Should give it a try. Sorry I can't help you with your immediate problem, though (another belgian) –Tinellus Jun 19 '12 at 19:37 I tried it, but didn't succeed to get the gmail calendar plugin to work (I installed it but didn't find it in the menu's then). That's when I moved back to evolution since I'm using it for over a year. Thanks Belgian colleague. –wouter205 Jun 20 '12 at 12:46 I have not experienced any problem while importing my address book exported as Outlook CSV file from Gmail to Evolution 3.12.9. –dx486 Feb 17 at 9:44 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down
