that for some reason DOS cannot retrieve its readable messages out of COMMNAD.COM (may be wrong here). The symptoms that produce this is attaching a network printer using NET.EXE, part of lan manager (yes I know, very old) as lpt1. Some network utility gives http://www.verycomputer.com/12_74538cea029dfa5f_1.htm the impression that it worked (as the connection is viewable) but on doing COPY CONFIG.SYS LPT1 it fails Any hint as to what may be wrong? BTW if this is the wrong newsgroup, say so and I will repost. It looked right. Cheers Stephen Howe Top Extended error 53 by Robert Zanatt » Tue, 16 Nov 1999 04:00:00 If it's 53, then it could be "bad network path". If it's 53h, then it could mean "failure on int 24h". The extended error extended error 54 story is a compatibility hook. Every DOS function will only return in AX the error codes which were documented in the DOS version where this function was "born". If there was a refinement in later DOS versions it was mapped to one of the existing error codes and you will get detailed information calling the Extended Error Function 59h. Extended error 53 (decimal) is "Network name not found" according to R.Brown's Interrupt list. I hope the explanation will put you one the right track. Regards Horst Top Extended error 53 by Tony Gordo » Tue, 16 Nov 1999 04:00:00 Of course, this person could be using WfW 3.x (or Win95/98/NT for that matter) peer to peer and get the same results. They all use the NET.EXE hooks to attach to network devices. I know I'm nit-picking, but it's possible. -Tony > On Mon, 15 Nov 1999 13:17:01 -0000, "Stephen Howe" > > I have seen this error before but I cannot remember what it means.
