I've tried connecting to a network share by specifying the UNC (Universal Naming Convention) to a run prompt and I've received an error stating that an extended error has occurred and I couldn't access the share. Upon checking the Server and the remote network share I came to the conclusion that there is a problem with the local workstation. I've tried several things before I've found the real solution to the problem. The first thing I've tried is to reach the network share by typing the UNC in Windows explorer but, with no success. Issued ipconfig /flushdns in command prompt to clear the DNS Resolver Cache: Because nothing has changed I've also tried to reset the network TCP/IP stack by issuing netsh winsock reset from command prompt and also disabled/enabled the network card. Normally, when you access a network share using the UNC, a popup window is displayed indicating that you'll need to enter your credentials. The only exception comes when you've cached the credentials on your local machine. The final solution came when I've checked the password vault and/or the credential manager. The password vault can be opened by typing rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr in command prompt: This is how the password vault looks like: Credential Manager can be opened from Control Panel\User Accounts\Credential Manager. Once the window has opened, delete any credentials cached for that particular network share: That's it for this article, wish you all the best and stay tuned for the following posts from IT training day. Maybe this can help you: "An extended error has occurred" or "Access Denied" Symptoms: When mapping a network drive using net use or using the net view command to view a different computer in the domain, you may receive: "An extended error has occurred" or "Access Denied" error messages. Resolutions: 1) This issue may occur if the workstation doesn't synchronize the time with the server. After verifying that basic network connectivity exists, you can force time synchronization on the client computer manually. To do this, run net time /domain /set command. 2) Make sure you have granted enough licenses for clients accessing. Can't find your answer ? Ask ! Get the answer hhuellen 8 April 2015
