Is there some event logs related to the issue? You may run “net use” command. For example: To assign the disk-drive device name E: to the Letters shared directory on the \\Financial server, type: net use e: \\financial\letters Meanwhile, please open an elevated command and refresh DNS and reset Winsock. >ipconfig /flushdns >netsh winsock reset Net Use command http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490717.aspx I suggest you post the error code or event logs in the forum. The drive can be mapped successfully by one of http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1020932 the following methods: 1) Using the "Connect using different credentials" option from the Windows Map Network Drive GUI, and specifying a valid IBM i User ID. 2) Use a log on script that provides valid IBM i User ID and password. 3) Store valid IBM i User ID and password in Windows Credential Manager. Fine with me They also want to be able to access a shared folder from each machine, obviously so students dont have to save work on one single machine. Again, not a problem I thought. First of all, permissions - I was under the an extended error impression that if NTFS permissions were set to 'everybody' then you wouldnt need to authenticate to connect, even on a non domain account? Apparantly you do. So then I took a similar approach to how it works in peer to peer networks - you have an identical username with the same password on each machine. So on AD I created matching accounts to the local ones and gave them full control of the folder. But it STILL asks for a username & password! Why?? Second problem - mapping the drives. I tried adding them as the local admin, worked fine but only added them for that single user. So logged on as the student local account (again local admin) and tried to map then. But whenever I try to map the share through explorer I get the error Code: The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: An extended error has occurred Nothing logged in the event log. Makes no sense at all. It is a user that is a member of the local admins group and has the same rights as the built in local admin account. Looked on google but what little mention of it there was seemed to be where someone is trying

Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement jw1496 Thread Starter Joined: Aug 6, 2006 Messages: 38 I installed a freecom 200Gb USB drive on my winXP computer, divided it into two roughly equal partitions formatted with NTFS. I created a folder in one of the partitions and shared it on my home network. A few days ago I could map this network drive from other computers in my workgroup and it worked fine, but today, from both winxp and win2k pro machines I get the error message The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: Not enough server storage is available to process this command. Other shared folders on the host machine C: drive are accessible OK, its just this new USB drive that's giving the problem. What's changed? Why did it work when I last tried to map the drive - I guess about 15th Sept. - and not today? Any suggestions gratefully received. jw1496, Sep 20, 2006 #1 Sponsor ozrom1e Joined: May 15, 2006 Messages: 11,849 The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: Not enough server storage is available to process this command. The solution should be to make more storage space available. I am not really sure on how to do this but we have experts here that should be able to help but you would have to ask to have this thread moved to Networking. Just click on the little triangle in the upper right corner and ask a moderator to move this thread and you will get much better service there.
