I tried to run different kinds of scans on it but always got stuck on a certain sector. (SeaTools failed it, testdisk wouldnt complete and so on) I tried chkdsk with "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" option enabled, and it finally seemed to complete the scan, and now SeaTools also passed its tests. It felt like the drive was still acting a little odd, so I wanted seagate external hard drive to reformat the drive. I pressed the restore device defaults in the format window, unchecked the quick format option, and let it to work overnight. Upon waking up, I see that windows has decided to update and restart the pc. Now the disk is not recognized in Disk Management, it doesn't show up at all, and in Device Manager I get the "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error. I can't find any drivers on seagates website to try and install, and don't now how else to attack this problem. Hope someone can help me. The "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error is usually associated with hardware or device drivers issues. I'd recommend that you open up Device Manager (with the drive connected to the computer) and under Universal Serial Bus controller uninstall the external HDD (it is usually "USB mass storage device"), then reconnect the drive so that Windows can install its drivers again to see if the same thing happens after that. I'd also suggest that you test the drive with a differe

I have tested it in multiple computers but I am still confronted with the same problem. I plug the hard drive in and the computer registers that it has been connected. However, once it is in, it doesn't display when I check under My Computer. I went into the device manager and completely uninstalled the driver. Then, I went to add hardware and when it was discovered it still led to the same issue. A little yellow triangle with an exclaimation point in it next to the device. When I go into properties it reads Code 10: This Device Cannot Start. As I said I tried connecting it to different computers but I still have the same problem. I am not sure where to begin with this one, any help will be greatly appreciated. I will provide any details needed to get this issue resolved Thank You! -John Back to top BC AdBot (Login to Remove) BleepingComputer.com Register to remove ads #2 hamluis hamluis Moderator Moderator 50,534 posts ONLINE Gender:Male Loca

I have a Seagate external hard drive which has been working fine. Today I had it plugged in and Cobian was backing up data onto the disk. I stopped working for a quick bite and when I returned to the computer, I had the message that Windows had stopped this device because it has reported a problem (Code 43). I tried updating the driver but was told installation was unsuccessful. Would be grateful for any help. Reboot and the device worked fine. Thank you so so much Daveh. Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top Topic Closed This topic has been closed to new replies.
