And luckily, it’s a problem that has many solutions. In this article, we’ll go over: What is startup disk full? How to find what's causing startup disk full? How to fix startup disk full? How do I prevent startup disk full in the future? However, we also understand that some people are short on time http://macpaw.com/how-to/startup-disk-full-on-mac-os-x and just want to fix startup disk full. So, if you’re not really interested in what it is and why it happens, just skip the next two sections and head to “How to Clean Your Startup Disk”. Or, even better, if you’d like an automatic, long-term solution that’ll keep your startup disk clean, we’d highly recommend a utility called CleanMyMac 3. It'll help you clean up gigabytes of disk space in just minutes (you can download it here). Note: if you’re running macOS Sierra, it has a built-in option of Optimized Storage that is supposed to solve the problem of the full hard drive by moving files into the cloud. However, it moves junk and useless files as well, and eventually you end up paying for iCloud storage to store junk. When I right-click on my hard drive and click http://ask.metafilter.com/43970/My-external-hard-drive-claims-to-be-full-but-its-not "Properties," the hard drive reports that it has 70+ gigs of free space left. Dragging and droping files onto it works fine, except for two ISO's. When I try to drag those ISOs over, I get an error message saying that there is no more room left on the hard drive. The ISOs are each less than 10 GB. I've tried moving one at a time, then together, both without any success. external hard How do I get those two files onto the hard drive? As long as you're alright with NTFS, you just need to run a command line program included with Win2k/XP/NT. Open a command line window. Under the start menu is an entry "Run..." Select that and enter "cmd" minus the quotes. A DOS style prompt should pop up. Type "convert $DRIVE /FS:NTFS" again sans quotes. $DRIVE is the letter of the drive you're attempting to convert. For example, to convert te c:\ drive you'd type "convert c: /FS
