UPDATE I have tried both solutions sugested by @jham. I have completely removed yaourt and package-query. At pacman -Qi pacman at 'required by' I have none. I also commented multilib and xenlism-arch from pacman.conf. When I do pacman -Syu I get the following: :: Proceed with installation? I would think that pacman should be at a newer version than that, since pacman -Ss pacman shows that v 5.0.0-1 is the current version:$ pacman -Ss pacman core/pacman 5.0.0-1 (base base-devel) [installed: 4.2.1-4] A library-based package manager with dependency support core/pacman-mirrorlist 20160124-1 [installed] Arch Linux mirror list for use by pacman extra/expac 5-1 pacman database extraction utility extra/namcap 3.2.6-1 A Pacman package analyzer extra/pkgfile 15-1 [installed] a pacman .files metadata explorer extra/srcpac 0.10.10-1 The pacman from-source wrapper community/pacmanlogviewer 1.3.1-4 Inspect pacman log files community/pacmatic 20150126-1 A pacman wrapper to avoid bricking your system and such other surprises. community/perl-cpanplus-dist-arch 1.32-1 CPANPLUS backend for building ArchLinux pacman p

I haven't updated the packages in a while and I'm having a problem while trying to do so: The first thing I tried was: sudo pacman -Syu as the documentation says, and I get this error: :: Synchronizing package databases... testing is up to date core is up to date extra is up to date community is up to date :: The following packages should be upgraded first : pacman :: Do you want to cancel the current operation :: and upgrade these packages now? '-' '-' '-' Copyright (C) 2002-2006 Judd Vinet '--' This program may be freely redistributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. Which seems to be ok I guess? Just in case I tried to first update yaourt and I got the same message: testing is up to date core is up to date extra is up to date community is up to date error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: Starting full system upgrade... :: packagekit: requires pacman<3.6.0 :: packagekit: requires pacman<3.6.0 I ran the following command to see if I could get the useful information and got this from where I couldn't get any more useful information, but maybe you can. Just in case I also tried it with KPackageKit and also got the same error: :: packagekit: requires pacman<3.6.0 :: packagekit: requires pacman<3.6.0 I hope you have all the information you need, otherwise please ask. Thanks in advance. arch-linux package-management upgrade pacman yaourt share|improve this question edited Fe
