XP Pro won't boot after deleting D: partition. I could not delete them by any means. Ok, so I transferred all my data back to C: drive, and tried to format D:. No dice. So, I figured I would just nuke the partition, and start over. No dice. Not allowed under Windoze. So, OK, I booted a linux CD with Dparted and nuked it from there. No problem. Until I tried to reboot. After the message: Verifying DMI Pool Data........ It just sits there. Back in Dparted, I can still see the C: partition, with data in it even. At this point I use Dparted to copy the partition onto an external drive, just to cover my ass. So I boot into XP install disk, and run fixmbr. No dice. Partition is still visible with data in Dparted, but won't boot. bootcfg /rebuild gives me: Error: Failed to add the selected boot entry to the boot list. I even stuck the drive in another XP machine to take a look, and the partition is showing as Active in disk manager. I am at the end of my rope. It takes me a week to get my system back to where it needs to be to do productive work, so I really don't want to start over. The whole partition is backed up to an external drive, so I won't be losing any data if I try something iffy. Any suggestions? Thanks! Back to top BC AdBot (Login to Remove) Bleeping

See the link for how to remove it: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic74951.html 0 LVL 3 Overall: Level 3 Windows XP 2 Message Accepted Solution by:bbuse2008-04-22 First locate your Norton SystemWorks CD and in the \support\gbtools folder locate gb_prog.exe. It should also be located in the c:\program files\goback folder. To remove GoBack on the boot record 1. Create a Windows Startup disk under Windows 98/Me. Go to www.bootdisk.com for the boot files, if needed. 2. Copy the Gb_prog.exe file to the Windows Startup disk. If there is not enough room to copy Gb_prog.exe to the Windows Startup disk, then copy Gb_prog.exe to a separate floppy disk. 3. On the affected computer, insert the Windows Startup disk and then start the computer. The computer has finished starting when you see an A:\> prompt and a blinking cursor. 4. Insert the disk that has the Gb_prog.exe file. 5. Type gb_prog.exe /r and then press Enter. The utility will attempt to repair the Master Boot Record. This may take several hours to complete. You may also see a progress bar twice. This ut
