Failed To Open The Connection Crystal Report Business Objects
open Connection Jun 08, 2006 04:34 AM|netfreak9|LINK Hi, I am on the verge of pulling my hair off on this one. I've got web reports built on Crystal XI and they https://scn.sap.com/thread/1363025 work absolutely fine on my Windows XP machine. I now transfer the web application to my Windows 2003 Enterprise Production Server and the web application is still running fine except all my reports keep giving the following error: Failed to open the connection. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 17 ] Failed to open the connection. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{ADB8090C-40ED-499D-88E3-915E23B0C5C3}.rpt Details: [Database Vendor Code: 17 ] I have the http://forums.asp.net/t/997655.aspx?Crystal+Failed+to+open+Connection latest service packs for crystal & windows. The Business Objects website doesn't talk about this error. Thanks, Irfan. I am unable to understand what is the cause of this problem. Please help. Thanks, Irfan. Reply netfreak9 None 0 Points 23 Posts Re: Crystal: Failed to open Connection Jul 12, 2006 11:01 AM|netfreak9|LINK I resolved the issue finally. Something which is pretty wierd. Do the following steps: 1. Open the report in the CR XI designer. 2. Select Database -> Set Datasource Location. 3. Set Datasource Location window will appear and in the replace with section connect to the database and replace these tables with the tables in the current datasource by clicking the update button. 4. After updating close the Set Datasource Location wind

There can be a number of causes. If your report was targeted to a specific database and then the database was changed without updated the report, this can cause it. It can also be caused by something in the query itself failing, such as if the report failed to open is based on a stored procedure that doesn't exist on the database against which the report is running. Try verifying the database for the report. share|improve this answer answered Dec 30 '08 at 17:02 Ryan Morlok 622510 1 Although this was not the resolution to my specific issue, I feel it is the most relevant to my question. –Joshua Drake Apr 16 '10 at 19:42 @Joshua Drake: what was the (re)solution of your problem?!? I'm facing the same error message and can't seem to find a solution for it... –marc_s Jul 26 '10 at 13:41 Unfortunately the report was rewritten, and in that process began to work again. I would recommend, in addition to all the answers on this page, that you make sure you have the latest service packs installed for Crystal. –Joshua Drake Aug 9 '10 at 13:15 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote As said this is a generic error, and like all such errors it's a very frustrating one. The problem is that VS 2003 has no preview option for crystal reports so it's hard to track down the source of the problem. So best way to solve this is to create a blank project in vs 2005 or later, import the crystal report, and run preview. You will get a more specific error then. share|improve this answer answered Dec 22 '10 at 8:00 Martian Kyo 111 add a comme

This means that if you design your report using Integrated Security, you must supply a domain user's credentials in code to log on to the SQL Server (you can change the user, but it must be a domain account). If you will be using a SQL Server account in production, it is very important that you use this account's credentials to connect to the database during the design phase. The CR designer caches database connection information, so I havefound it
