The physical disk: failed to get partition size, status 3 shared storage is done over a qlogic iscsi hba to a Compellent SAN. Today we had an issue where the cluster failed to set volguid error: 183 servers were unable to talk to the shared storage. Once the issue was resolved the cluster was still off-line (not unexpected). However, when we went to bring the cluster services back online we got the following failed to obtain the partition information for cluster disk errors: Cluster physical disk resource 'Cluster Disk 1' cannot be brought online because the associated disk could not be found. The expected signature of the disk was '3F489FCF'. If the disk was replaced or restored, in the Failover Cluster Management snap-in, you can use the Repair function (in the properties sheet for the disk) to repair the new or restored disk. If the disk will not be replaced, delete the associated

disk resource. This prevented us from bringing any of the cluster services (MSDTCand MSSQL) online. The item that I am confused about is that when we checked the disk signature through diskpart the signature of the disk was '3F489FCF', so the signature of the presented drive matched that of the "expected signature". The same goes for the other clustered service drives. After rebooting both nodes, all the clustered drives were showing up in disk manager as "offline". When bringing the clustered drives online, though the failover cluster management, it would hang at bringing the clustered MSDTC drive online. After the failover cluster wizard errored out we attmepted and were sucessfully able to bring the MSDTC shared drive online via disk management (via right clicking the drive and telling it to come online). This caused the clustered drive in the failover cluster managment to show the drive as online, however the service itself refused to start. The only way that we were able to get everything back only was by deleting the MSDTC service and recreating it (we used the same unchanged drive for the clustered device for the MSDTC service). We also had to "recreate" the quorum partition (by recreate I mean re-setup the cluster to use node majority and the existing (

Hyper-V cluster.. He is running 3 Hyper-V hosts with Windows 2008 R2 SP1 running multiple applications. One of the hosts keep failing and He can not Live migrate any VM to the other hosts until restart. We went through all well known workarounds for such cases like 1- if you have AV please disable 2- Also check http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773533%28WS.10%29.aspx 3- Please if you have teaming..Break it https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/0526b341-a123-4883-8661-425453209089/failover-cluster-issue-under-windows-2008?forum=winserverClustering and check again 4- Please check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981618 5- Make sure that you enable the "file and printer sharing" as well as the "client for MS networks" on the heartbeat networks cards on all nodes. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2008795 So we have to start reading more in the cluster logs. You can generate the cluster logs as per http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2008/09/24/8962934.aspx We got some interesting data and errors in the logs https://fawzi.wordpress.com/2011/08/18/rhs-error-5023-from-resourcecontrol-for-resource-cluster-disk/ just like: In Win2008 the Physical Disk resource type private property that stores the disk signature change from "Signature" and it is now "DiskSignature" in Win2008. The lack of the DiskSignature property not being populated was resulting in the resource failing to come online ERROR_CLUSTER_GROUP_MOVING(5908)' because of "Virtual Machine Configuration R-Web2003′ is owned by node 2, not 1.' mm.. So it looks like something from the Hardware level. I don't have to say... I am having a not so good morning already ... :-(Here's the Cluster's error:Ownership of cluster disk 'Cluster Disk xxx' has been unexpectedly lost by this node. Run the Validate a failed to get Configuration wizard to check your storage configuration. This looks to me as a Os or SAN error. The LUN is gone, then SQL goes down. Now, following our SAN admin's advice, we did apply this patch: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=2718576 ... but does not look like it resolved the main issue. We just started having this issue few weeks ago. But it was running fine for a two month period, maybe a bit more but with less workload.Has someone experienced this problem before?
