Do you have any idea about what else can be done in this situation to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733731(v=ws.10).aspx allow L2TP connections?Regards,Corneliu http://www.winnetmag.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=23830 VPN/ISA Server Conflict HereÆs a bug that occurs on VPN servers running RRAS with Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server). A race condition between the two services causes a deadlock that prevents the RRAS service from starting. When the deadlock occurs, Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) clients can't connect to the server because the RRAS service isn't running. If you have this problem on your http://forums.isaserver.org/Error_20171/m_130148100/tm.htm VPN server, youÆll see the following message in the event log:Event Type: Warning Event Source: RemoteAccess Event Category: None Event ID: 20171 Description: Failed to apply IP Security on port because of error:The RPC server is unavailable. No calls will be accepted to this port.No bug fix is available for the deadlock. To work around the problem, you can set the RRAS service startup to Manual. After you reboot the VPN server, you must manually start the RRAS service before the server will accept incoming connections. It will give RRAS back the ISA Control Service dependency it lacks. The script also returns "ISA control service is already a RRAS dependency"... (in reply to merlin1) Post #: 3 RE: Error 20171 - 18.Apr.2003 8:13:00 PM spouseele Pos

Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate.. No calls will be accepted to this port. Not really sure what it means but it does only seem to have happened since the smoothwall VPN was setup, but in addition to that the time it is logged are right throughout the day as well as failed to apply evenings when I would expect to see staff connecting. Could this be from a legacy VPN system that used to be in place, can I just stop the routing and remote access service or are there other things that would be dependant on that service ???
