problem, I do a this workaround : Change registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\SysprepStatus to 7 Change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\SkipRearm to 1 And then Delete fatal error when running sysprep the folder Panther. Creating your account only takes a few fatal error minutes. Join Now Bear with me because I'm a complete n00b when it comes to running sysprep. I've just set up a VM the way I'd like it. I intend for it to be an application server for a Citrix environment, and I'd like to make at least one copy for redundancy's sake and performance considerations for the users. It took me a fatal error a long time to get the app server set up correctly and I'd prefer to NOT duplicate the process if at all possible. Problem I'm having is that after cloning the server, I need to run sysprep on it in order to generate a new SID. But every time I run sysprep I get a fairly useless 'fatal error' message: "system preparation tool 3.14 a fatal error occurred while trying to sysprep the machine" I've tried quite a few fixes that I've found online, but none of them seem to work. What I've tried so far: 1) Running MS's hotfix found in this article 2) Resetting the 'SkipRearm' and 'GeneralizationState' registry keys 3) Renaming the server 4) Re-entering the Windows license key Has anyone ever had any luck with using something OTHER THAN sysprep to generate a new SID for Windows 7 / Server 2008 or newer machines? I know that there used to be something called NewSID but evidently that doesn't work anymore with newer OS'. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your assistance. Solved Issues trying to sysprep a Windows 2008 R2 Server - "Fatal error occured" Posted on 2011-04-24 Windows Server 2008 1 Verified Solution 1 Comment 2,496 Views Last Modified: 2012-06-22 Hi All, PLEASE Help! I have a base Windows 2008 server that we use a template to deploy additional servers on our network. This server changes from time to time and up until now we have merely made the changes to the server - rerun sysprep and the recreated the image. We now get errors which point to a fatal error I have narrowed down these errors to be because of the following: "This error may occur if the Windows Software Licensing Rearm program has run more than three times in a single Windows image." According to MS there is a workaround using settings in the Unattend.xml (which I have not yet needed to use) file relating to SkipRearm see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929828. The question is how do I go about creating the unattended file? It appears that I only need a few basic lines, however everything I try fails. Any ideas?
