STOP: c000021a Fatal System Error Started by Marli , Aug 15 2010 05:26 AM Please log in to reply 8 replies to this topic #1 Marli Marli Members 22 posts OFFLINE Local time:03:38 AM Posted 15 August 2010 - 05:26 AM I have a Windows XP laptop with SP3. Earlier today I was just browsing the internet, nothing special, and out of nowhere I began getting all these popups from my Avira. Well, since I had this problem before and I solved it by clicking on delete file on each popup and then scanning my computer, I was planning on doing the same but the popups would not stop. I tried opening up Task Manager to see if I could see a program running that wasn't supposed to be or whatever but my task manager would not come up. Instead, I kept getting an error saying Task Manager could not start up because of something registry error or I'm not sure what it said. I got scared and just
comments] i recently lost power during an automated system update, which caused a fatal windows xp error. the computer would show the bios http://www.thinkoholic.com/2013/09/12/windows-xp-solution-bluescreen-death-error-c000021a-fatal-system-error/ screen, try to boot, and just restart. booting into safe mode didn't work http://windows-exe-errors.com/stop-c000021a-fatal-system-error/ either. using the boot options menu (press F8 just after the bios screen goes away), i was able to deactivate the automatic system restart after serious errors, and finally was presented with the following error code: Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly fatal system with a status of 0xc000026c (0×00000000 0×00000000). The system has been shut down. (the german version says something like "der systemprozess session manager initialization wurde unerwartet beendet. das system wurde heruntergefahren.") a quick search for error code c000021a brought me to lots and lots of help pages saying "please constact your system administrator". one single page among all these meaningless "help" fatal system error suggestions did contain an actual answer: your win32k.sys (located in c:/windows/system32) has most likely been corrupted. here's how to solve this problem: use your windows xp installation cd, or any other bootable disk/flashdrive to get access to the file system. navigate to c:\windows\system32\dllcache\ and copy win32k.sys to the parent directory, c:\windows\system32. if you're using windows xp recovery console, the commands are as follows: c:
cd windows\system32\
rename win32k.sys win32kx.sys
cd dllcache
dir win32k*
copy win32k.sys ..\ renaming the original (corrupted) file is recommended so you can undo your changes if necessary. if the "dir win32k*" command doesn't show the wanted file, you may find another copy in c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\. alternatively, you may be able to copy the file from a similar system (be sure to check the bit architecture (32 or 64) and service pack version first!). after the intact version of win32k.sys is copied to your system32 directory, remove the bootable cd and enter "exit", and your system should start again. or BSOD error or kernel error). The stop error message usually reads: STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc06d007e (0×00000000 0×00000000). The system has been shut down. What Causes Stop Error c000021a? Windows STOP c000021a Fatal System Error occurs when the Windows kernel detects that either Csrss.exe or Winlogon.exe service processes have stop responding or have failed to load. When this happens, Windows stops the system completely and then generates the fatal system error message. There can be many reasons why you are experiencing this error: Corrupt or missing hardware drivers Faulty hardware (i.e. Memory) Windows service pack has failed to install correctly. Your computer has corrupted system files either due to a faulty shutdown or virus/malware. Windows System Restore failed during the rollback process. Third-party software applications on your computer are causing kernel level conflicts. Known Solutions NOTE: The solutions listed below are assuming that you are receiving the stop error AFTER Windows is running. There are some cases where users are experiencing the stop error during the system boot procedure and thus cannot get to the Windows desktop to perform the task listed below in order. Option 1: Make Sure Your PC Drivers Are Updated (DO THIS FIRST!) Missing or corrupt drivers are responsible for many bluescreen errors. Before taking the steps below, we recommend you perform a free driver scan with DriverFinder and make sure all your drivers are up-to-date. Option 2: Run Chkdsk Command Run chkdsk: Go to a command prompt and type "chkdsk /f". Option 3: Take Out The Battery Unplug your computer and take out the battery. (It looks like a watch battery on your motherboard). Plug your computer back in and restart it. Shutdown your computer and unplug it again. Place your battery back in, plug in your computer, and restart it. Check to see if your are still receiving the stop error message. Option 3: Test or Swap Out Your Memory (RAM) Bad or faulty RAM is known to cause many bluescreen errors and can usually be replaced for cheap. Before swapping it out, run Memtest86+ to test OVERNIGHT to see if it reports any errors. If you are not comfortable opening your PC and replacing your memory, bring your computer to a qualified technician. Option 4: Perform a Windows System Restore Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC on your keyboard to launch Task Manager Click on the Application tab and click "New Task" then "Brows
