I wanted to install Windows alongside my Debian installation in http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/67720/gparted-messed-up-my-partitions order to play some games. In order to do that, I had to boot up a Ubuntu Live 12.1 DVD and use GParted (I was resizing my main partition which had everything). The resizing finished successfully. I then tried to reboot into my Debian to backup my data, which I had forgotten to do before, unfortunately. GRUB loads nicely, but the system can't boot properly! It comes to a point where it tries to configure a "ramdisk", or something like that; then it's just a prompt and that's it. Now I've booted into Ubuntu again, to run a check on my shrank partition. Essentially, it's broken, but I can't really understand the error message. This is what GParted reported: GParted 0.12.1 --enable-libparted-dmraid Libparted 2.3 Check and repair file system (ext3) on /dev/sda1 00:11:35 ( ERROR ) calibrate /dev/sda1 00:00:00 ( SUCCESS ) path: /dev/sda1 start: 2,048 end: 1,232,117,759 size: 1,232,115,712 (587.52 GiB) check file system on /dev/sda1 for errors and (if possible) fix them 00:11:35 ( ERROR ) e2fsck -f -y -v /dev/sda1 ext2fs_check_desc: Corrupt group descriptor: bad block for block
fs Date: Wed, 18 Jan 2006 16:16:13 -0800 (PST) Hello, I looked through the archives https://www.redhat.com/archives/ext3-users/2006-January/msg00018.html a bit and could not find anything relevant, if you http://serverfault.com/questions/313033/e2fsck-resize2fs-problems know otherwise please point me in the right direction. I have a ~3T ext3 filesystem on linux software raid that had been behaving corectly for sometime. Not to long ago it gave the following error after trying to mount it: mount: wrong fs error fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/md0, or too many mounted file systems after a long fsck which I had to do manually I noticed the following in /var/log/messages after trying to mount again: Jan 19 09:13:11 terrorbytes kernel: EXT3-fs error (device md0): ext3_check_descriptors: Block bitmap for group 3584 not in ext3 fs error group (block 0)! Jan 19 09:13:11 terrorbytes kernel: EXT3-fs: group descriptors corrupted ! when trying to correct again with e2fsck I get this error: e2fsck 1.34 (25-Jul-2003) Group descriptors look bad... trying backup blocks... e2fsck: Invalid argument while checking ext3 journal for /dev/md0 some more information on the system: os flavor: Suse 9.1 kernel version: 2.6.5-7.202.7-default (various suse patches applied to 2.6.5 kernel) I am not sure where to go from here, any help, experience, or references to documentation that would help me better understand the problem would be apreciated. The RAID5 makes a LVM volume group and a logical group. The latter contains only one ext3 partition. I've recently ran: e2fsck -f /dev/vg03/lv01 && resize2fs -M /dev/vg03/lv01 which exited without an error. Now when I try to mount /dev/vg03/lv01 I get: EXT3-fs error (device dm-0): ext3_check_descriptors: Block bitmap for group 30533 not in group (block 1000532368)! EXT3-fs: group descriptors corrupted! How do I get out of this predicament?
