open on my firewall to make a successful connection? Product: WS_FTP Professional Version: 9.0+ Platform: All supported OS Solution Answer/Solution: The 425 error means that the data channel is blocked or closed between you and the server you are trying to connect to. For Active (PORT) connections open port 21. Also open inbound high ports above 1024 to ftp error 425 use port or pasv first the client. You can specify the range of ports the client uses for an Active data connection by clicking Tools, Options, Firewall, and check "Limit local port range". Open the matching port range you specify in your firewall. For Passive (PASV) connections open port 21, and disable any outbound packet or command filtering. If you still cannot get a successful connection, check all devices that are between the client and server to ensure that the proper ports are open (e.g. routers).Another possible cause of the 425 error code is the SSL requirements on the server. In the case of the following error message: 425 unable to build data connection: Operation not permitted. The server requires the FTP client to reuse the SSL session. In WS_FTP Pro (12.2 and later) to enable this option: Edit your site profileClick SSL on the left of the site optionscheck "Reuse SSL Session" and click OK to save the change. is a Wiki on Network Configuration that covers this information, however, it is written in such a way that the “layman” may have difficulty understanding what’s going on—and it http://ipswitchft.force.com/kb/articles/FAQ/Error-425-Can-t-open-data-connection-1307565974920 doesn’t show exactly how to fix the 425 error code—so this Wiki will give instructions on how to set up your specific router. ”Abstract”[edit] This Wiki will go over the common technical reason(s) for error 425 being given after the FZS sends the 227 Passive command to the FTP client—regardless of what client is being used. This Wiki is https://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Setting_up_your_Router_to_Fix_the_%22425_code%22 written for the common user in a narrative tone—if a more in-depth technical Wiki is desired refer to the Network Configuration article. Narrative[edit] So, you've set up your FZS and it works for a local connection in your home, BUT you want to make your Local FTP Server accessible when you’re away—and you want to use encryption (SSL/TLS) to do so. You set up a Dynamic DNS (DynDNS) service to point to your FZS via your external IP address (don’t worry I’ll explain later in the Wiki). You’ve followed a how-to on setting up FZS to use SSL/TLS, but you've run into an issue—and after looking at the FZS Log you see the problem—right after the "227 Passive command" is given and acknowledged you see a 425 error. But even after summoning a Warlock, a Witch, and a Unicorn—you can’t fix it and wind up here reading this Wiki. The Problem[edit] More than likely the problem is that your FZS is requesting the FTP Client to use the Passive Ports defined in the FZS setti
» FTP Status and Error Codes FTP Status and Error Codes Last Year GlobalSCAPE 5 CuteFTP for Windows THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO: EFT Server all versions CuteFTP® all https://kb.globalscape.com/KnowledgebaseArticle10142.aspx versions DISCUSSION During FTP sessions, servers send and receive various numbered https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FTP_server_return_codes codes to/from FTP clients. Some codes represent errors, most others simply communicate the status of the connection. Below are brief explanations for the most common status and error codes. When determining a course of action, review the entire log; some codes are informational only, ftp error others indicate that you have entered the wrong information, and others indicate what the information is that you need to provide before continuing. For troubleshooting CuteFTP connection problems, also refer to Troubleshooting CuteFTP Connection Problems. The table below is provided so that you have some idea whether you can solve the issue on your own (e.g., ftp error 425 code 331=you need to provide a password) or you need to call your ISP for assistance (e.g., code 426=you are unable to connect to the remote server). These codes are used by most FTP servers/clients. NOTE: The information below is only offered as a courtesy to assist you in telling your Internet Service Provider what the error is so that they can help solve your issue. For example, if you get a code 426, the transfer was aborted and the connection closed. The solution to this error is to "try logging back in; contact your hosting provider to check if you need to increase your hosting account; try disabling the firewall on your PC to see if that solves the problem. If not, contact your hosting provider or ISP." The list below contains standard FTP codes. Numbers outside this list are proprietary to the Server or Client that you are using. good, bad or incomplete: Range Purpose 1xx Positive Preliminary reply The requested action is being initiated; expect another reply before proceeding with a new command. (The user-process sending another command before the completion reply would be in violation of protocol; but server-FTP processes should queue any commands that arrive while a preceding command is in progress.) This type of reply can be used to indicate that the command was accepted and the user-process may now pay attention to the data connections, for implementations where simultaneous monitoring is difficult. The server-FTP process may send at most, one 1xx reply per command. 2xx Positive Completion reply The requested action has been successfully completed. A new request may be initiated. 3xx Positive Intermediate reply The command has been accepted, but the requested action is being held in abeyance, pending receipt of further information. The user should send another command specifying this information. This reply is used in command sequence groups. 4xx Transient Negative Completion reply The command was not accepted and the requested action did not take place, but the error condition is temporary and the action may be requested again. The user should return to the beginning of the command sequence, if any. It is difficult to assign a meaning to "transient", particularly when two distinct sites (Server- and User-processes) have to agree on the interpretation. Each reply in the 4xx category might have a slightly different time value, but the intent is that the user-process is encouraged to try again. A rule of thumb in determining if a reply fits into the 4xx or the 5xx (Permanent Negative) category is that replies are 4xx if the commands can be repeated without any change in command form or in properties of the User or Server (e.g., the command is spelled the same with the same arguments used; the user does not change his file access or user name; the server does not put up a new implementation.) 5xx Permanent Negative Completion reply The command was not accepted and the requested action did not take place. The User-process is discouraged from repeating the exact request (in the same sequence). Even some "permanent" error conditions can be corrected, so the human user may want to direct his User-process to reinitiate the command sequence by direct action at some
