Hi i got problem with my ftp server(vsftpd). when i use `mput` or `put` command if i don't specify file name to be save i get this error "553 Could not create file." . i mean it doesn't use original file name automatically to save file on remote system. I did some search and find ntrans and nmap in man page of ftp command (i use ubuntu 12.04). but using them didn't work .maybe i use them in wrong way. I created a user and can now succesfully connect via ftp. However, if I try to upload something I get the error message "553 Could not create file." I assume this has to do with permissions but I don't know enough about it to be able to fix it. So http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/39466/vsftpd-553-could-not-create-file-permissions basically, what do I have to do to be able to upload files? permissions ftp vsftpd amazon-ec2 share|improve this question edited Feb 17 at 23:14 Castaglia 25319 asked May 27 '12 at 18:29 user1995 Check the selinux Settings. configure boolean allow_ftpd_full_access to ON –user125748 Jul 31 '15 at 12:40 add a comment| 7 Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote accepted There are two likely reasons that this could happen -- you do not have write and execute permissions on the directories leading to the directory you are trying to upload to, or vsftpd is configured not to allow you to upload. In the former case, use chmod and chown as appropriate to make sure that your user has these permissions on every intermediate directory. The write bit allows the affected user to create, rename, or delete files within the directory, and modify the directory's attributes, whilst the read bit allows the affected user to list the files within the directory. Since intermediate directories in the path also affect this, the permissions must be set appropriately leading up to the ultimate destination that you intend to upload to. In the latter case, look at your vsftpd.conf. write_enable must be true to allow writing (and it is false by default). There is good documentation on this configuration file at man 5 vsftpd.

Reading & Writing was working until I restarted the server. I checked the usual suspects chmod -R 777 /home/data_feed, chown -R datafeed:ftpuser /home/data_feed. But still can't write to the server. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.I have followed several threads of this and am still confused, I did though download core ftp client and it worked on the files that zilla wouldn't.Well not in reality. Once I set the file on the servers permissions to 7777 it now seems to be working. Zilla then it seems wont read a local file if it knows it wont have permission to upload it? The 553 error is coming from the FTP server, it has problems storing or isn't allowed to store the file to it
