Dreamweaver Permission Problem
Uncategorized We've been hearing rumblings from some users about the upload (put) and/or download dreamweaver an ftp error occurred cannot make connection to host (get) process failing during FTP file transfer in Dreamweaver CS5.5. If you are having trouble uploading your files to or downloading your should dependent files be included in the transfer files from you server, consult this tech note for a number of possible solutions. You'll want to make sure you step through the recommended solutions in order as you troubleshoot your upload/download problem. Adobe https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1160864 has further identified particular failures amongst those using GoDaddy as their web host. The failure is usually indicated by the message "File activity incomplete" in the Background File Activity window, and the FTP Log in Dreamweaver showing an error similar to the following: "An FTP error occurred – cannot put ‘/index.html'. Access Denied." The issue seems to be affecting only those files you might http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2011/07/late-breaking-issue-putget-not-working-for-some-dreamweaver-cs5-5-users.html be trying to put to/get from the root folder of your FTP server. For example, you may be able to put files to the /wwwroot/css/ subfolder, but not to /wwwroot/. The problem also occurs despite the fact that you can perform the same action (e.g. uploading a file) using another FTP client, such as FileZilla or an older version of Dreamweaver. If you are a GoDaddy user and experiencing this issue, see Solution 3: Move or delete any symbolic links in the above referenced tech note. Get Started Free TrialInspired by what you've read? This does not only occur in the rood directory but also affects sub-directories. It only affects html and xml files as images and associated files always transfer without a problem. I've https://www.sitepoint.com/community/t/ftp-error-in-adobe-dreamweaver/88452 created a set of pages in Dreamweaver, ready to load them up, but nothing is appearing online. So, for example, I've got all my html files in a folder on my PC: ..../Documents/Projects/mysite In the folder are the html pages: mysite_home mysite_feedback I've got the domain name as, for example: http://www.example.com I've set up a new site ftp error as instructed by Dreamhost (with the username, password and FTP server). I can't figure out what the "Root" directory is that I should use. I've tried: /home/username/example.com/ I gather the "Web URL" sohuld be: http://www.example.com Does anyone know what I should be entering -- I've looked everywhere online and can't find a solution...... Thanks! 04-08-2011, 02:29 AM Post: #2 Ryo-ohki Guru Posts: 850 Joined: Jan 2006 RE: Problem: Dreamweaver, Root Directory, and an ftp error Dreamhost The server is configured to look for certain pages by default. One of them needs to be named index.htm, index.html, index.php (you get the point right?). If not you would need an .htaccess file to redirect to whatever file you want to show up when someone goes to your site. http://www.marciesgifts.com PM for manual CMS(drupal,joomla,etc)/Blog(WP,MT,etc )/forum(phpbb,smf,etc) install/transfer $75. $25 Off w/promo code SPRINKLES 04-08-2011, 02:33 PM Post: #3 Getastick Dreamling Posts: 3 Joined: Apr 2011 RE: Problem: Dreamweaver, Root Directory, and Dreamhost Sweet -- thanks Ryo-ohki. So I've saved the "mysite_home.html" as "index.html" However, I'm still having issues with which "Root Directory" to enter in Dreamweaver. I've entered my details in the Root Directory field, eg: /home/username/example.com/ I then click "Test" and get a message saying: "An FTP error has occurred - cannot open server folder/home/mysite/username/example.com/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem." As an aside, If I leave the field blank and click test, I get confirmation that I've connected to the server correctly, so I'm imagining it's something relating to what I'm entering.... Any ideas of what might be missing...? 04-08-2011, 03:16 PM Post: #4 Andrew F Previous DH Staff Posts: 3,057 Joined: Aug 2008 RE: Problem: Dreamweaver, Root Directory, and Dreamho

If you're talking about when you define a new Site, then yes - "Dreamweaver connected to your Web server successfully." ralphm 2011-07-29 05:14:08 UTC #4 Do you have access to the hosting account itself (such as a file manager in a control panel that you log in to)? Anyhow, it might be best to ring the web host as ask them directly. That could be a quicker solution. Also, does this apply only to pages that are already on the site?
