Dreamweaver Ftp Error Access Denied
Sep 2, 2009 7:58 AM Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me...I am follwoing a tutorial to build my first site with Dreamweaver CS4. I am completely new to this! All was going well until the early hours of this morning. I bought a hosting package with 123.reg to get me started and downloaded filezilla as they recommend. filezilla However, from the site management/edit screen when I go to test I get the following error " An FTP error occurred-cannot open remote folder public_html/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem." I have checked and checked again, all info is entered correctly. 123.reg initially said the permissions were wrong and they have now changed them. They said they can see no problems from their end and it should work. Just out of interest I changed host name from the 'number code' to my domain name (both were options in my welcome hosting email, and this generated a really long error message saying the FTP server might be down etc etcAll help appreciated,I feel like pulling my hair out!!Thanks,Emma I have the same question Show 0 Likes(0) 2124Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Try to connect to your site via some other FTP tool (like
looking at in DW's tree view.* Except that, in some circumstances, DW simply will not connect to the server, no matter that you've followed all the usual instructions. Thanks to Craig Lido for pointing me to Macromedia's Dreamweaver TechNote: Add a colon and the port number to the end of the FTP host name in the FTP Host text box. The FTP host name will appear similarly to the following examples: -www.myhost.com:80 -123.456.789.012:80 Much appreciated. I have ALWAYS used Dreamweaver for coding, designing, uploading, etc. but for some reason with this new server, it absolutely will not accept my username and password. I've connected using FileZilla just fine using the same login info, but for some reason Dreamweaver is being stubborn. Any ideas please? Let me know what happens. moira says: Comment posted on 03/16/09 @ 10:05 pm I have been using an old version - Dreamweaver 2 - which has been great - and now I am having ftp problems. I have tried all of the above and I still get a message - host found connecting - and then - an ftp error occurred - connect make connection to host. I have rung mine host and want me to use their Zilla thing as well which I have to buy. Why would I when D/W has been perfect. Hope you can help. Cheers Moira Diane Vigil says: Comment posted on 03/17/09 @ 12:43 am A couple of questions: have you switched hosts recently? If not, have they changed something? Are you trying to upload via a secure connection (SFTP) that's being rejected? You can always try Filezilla, which is free. If nothing else, that may give you some clues. Thing is, I'm not sure whether FTP protocols may have changed. I used WS_FTP '95 for years before upgrading, and then using DW's internal FTP functions. So I'm not sure whether there may be something different with respect to FTP functions this much later o

I am testing the ftp connection in Dreamweaver, but I am getting the same error each time. I have tried changing permissions at Powweb, but this seems to make no difference. Here's the text of the error message: ftp error An ftp error occurred. Cannot open remote folder htdocs/NewSite/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there may be a permission problem. The file, however, does exist. I have also checked my username and password at Powweb, and they work fine. This leads me to believe there is a permission problem. If so, what do I do? Any thoughts? workingteacher View Public Profile Find More Posts by workingteacher 2-3-07, 07:05 PM #2 ftp error occurred Croc Hunter Mod.. with bite.. Use ftp.powweb.com All folders esp htdocs should be 755. If you have an antivirus/firewall you could try turning it off. If you drop NewSite can you login to htdocs alone? Ummm.. try creating the NewSite folder from inside OPS. That's about all I can think of for now. __________________ Croc Hunter MSC : Croc Hunter View Public Profile Visit Croc Hunter's homepage! Solved can't connect to server via ftp from dreamweaver Posted on 2014-07-21 Adobe Dreamweaver Networking Protocols File Sharing Software 1 Verified Solution 22 Comments 2,237 Views Last Modified: 2014-07-26 I have a site at test-site.michianait.net that I am trying to update with Dreamweaver CS6. The connection credentials that works with Transmit on a Mac ( and Filezila ) do NOT work when set in Dreamweaver. As the site was built in Dreamweaver, it would be nice to be able to use the ftp client built-in to Dreamweaver to upload files. Is there something special I have to do in the Dreamweaver site definition that is different than what I use for the ftp credentials in Transmit or Filezila? Any help would be appreciated.
