2012 8:19 AM by swathen@sjaschool.org Branched to a new discussion. Dreamweaver FTP still doesn't work jca1138 Mar 29, 2009 6:36 PM So I've been trying to get FTP to work in (Mac) Dreamweaver -- and I've dreamweaver user limit reached tried every version since MX 2004. But they all fail. This problem has been posted in this forum (and many others) in the past. Whenever you try to connect/test an FTP server, you immediately get this exact error: "An FTP error occurred -- cannot make connection to host." This error happens instantly. There is nothing to see in the FTP log. It is not related to any FTP timeouts, firewall settings, etc. I an ftp error occurred cannot make connection to host the remote host cannot be found have stayed at Dreamweaver MX 2004 because it's FTP works (and continues to work). Every version of Dreamweaver I've tried since then, CS, CS 2, CS 3, etc. all give this same error. I've tried deleting ssh_hosts. I've deleted keychains. I've tried reinstalling. I've deleted preferences. Rebuild site caches. I've tried different servers, hosts, etc. FTP (with and without all the Passive, etc. options, SFTP, etc. I've tested FTP/SFTP in other programs, in the Terminal etc. I've turned off Firewalls, removed routers, etc. What am I missing? Why is Dreamweaver MX 2004 the last version able to perform FTP operations on our Mac? I have the same question Show 0 Likes(0) 7533Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. I've connected using FileZilla just fine using the same login info, but for some reason Dreamweaver is being stubborn. Any ideas please? I have tried all of the above and I still get a message - host found connecting - and then - an ftp error occurred - connect make connection to host. I have rung mine host and want me to use their Zilla thing as well which I have to buy. Why would I when D/W has been perfect. Hope you can help. Cheers Moira Diane Vigil says: Comment posted on 03/17/09 @ 12:43 am A couple of questions: have you switched hosts recently? If not, have they changed something? Are you trying to upload via a secure connection (SFTP) that's being rejected? You can always try Filezilla, which is free. If nothing else, that may give you some clues. Thing is, I'm not sure whether FTP protocols may have changed. I used WS_FTP '95 for years before upgrading, and then using DW's internal FTP functions. So I'm not sure whether there may be something different with respect to FTP functions this much later on. By using this option, users do NOT need to use SFTP/FTP programs such as Fugu, SSH, etc. Note: This tutorial directly follows Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 on a PC and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 on a Mac, but the instructions can be generally applied to all versions of Dreamweaver. Setting up your web site 1. Open Dreamweaver 2. PC Users: Open Files from the left menu. Make sure you are in the Local Disk view. Then click the Manage Sites link. (PC) MAC Users: Open Files from the right menu. Make sure you are in the Computer view. Then click the Manage Sites link. (MAC) 3. On the Manage Sites window, click on New > Site to start the wizard. NOTE: The wizard is nearly identical on both PC and Mac versions. (PC) (MAC) 4. Enter a name for your site (Note: This is only for personal reference on your computer. It will not appear on the actual site) and enter the URL of your site (web address, ie. "ic.ucsc.edu/~login"). Then click Next to continue. 5. You will then be asked if you want to use server technology. If your webpage is an HTML site, then you will click No. Click Next to continue. 6. You will then be asked how you want to work with your files during development. Choose the first option. Before continuing, you must enter a directory for your site files to be stored on your computer. (Note: If your site already has a directory (folder), you can enter that or create a new one and move your files later). Once completed, click Next to continue. 7. You will then be asked how you connect to your remote server. Choose FTP. You must then fill in the hostname, folder on server (the home directory your site will appear under, NOT your URL, ie. "public_html/course123"), login, and password. Then check Use Secure FTP (Note: This is required for connecting to "ic.ucsc.edu"). On
