HP LaserJet 5N Fuser Error Message Started by EducatedGuess , Jan 27 2013 02:54 PM Please log in to reply 9 replies to this topic #1 EducatedGuess EducatedGuess Members 182 posts OFFLINE Local time:03:12 PM Posted 27 January 2013 - 02:54 PM I’m hoping someone can give me some insight here. I have two HP Laserjet 5N’s, one to use and one for parts. These are AWESOME printers and rarely break. About a week ago I got the error message: “50 Fuser Error: Cycle Power”. I swapped the Fuser from the other printer, and still got the error message. Then I swapped the big power supply on the bottom from the other printer: Same error message. A few questions: 1) Is there a difference between a High-Voltage Power Supply and a Low-Voltage Power Supply? 2) If so, does my HP 5N have one of each? 3) If so, can someone send me a procedure and repair instructions on how to locate and replace the Low-Voltage Power Supply on an HP Laserjet 5N. The one I replaced is apparently known as the High-Voltage Power Supply. (Diagrams or schematics or pictures or even a video would be helpfu

Yes, there is a difference. The low power supply is the easy one to get to on the bottom. The HV power supply is on the right side of the printer (where the power cord plugs into).2. Yes, they have one of each.3. It sounds like you have already swapped out the LV power supply. To get to the HV power supply, you must remove the right cover. You will see a long, thin assembly on the bottom of the http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/74908 printer that the power supply plugs into. Just a few screws and a couple of wiring harness and it will slid out. by unknown on Jan 27, 2013 at 1:27pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Sue, i think you're a bit confused. It's so not like you. The low voltage supply is the one on the bottom right that the plug goes into. The high voltage supply is on the bottom of the printer. Just pop the cover off by pressing the latch under the toner door and the one at the back. Two screws at the bottom of the supply and three screws on the plate to the left. Now you can unplug the two connectors and slide it out. by moe on Jan 27, 2013 at 4:03pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Sue & Moe:Thanks. I will try this and let you know. Since I have another working printer of the same model, I'll just swap the part and see what happens. Thanks again, and will let you know.Appreciate It,CharmedLife417 by CharmedLife417 on Jan 27, 2013 at 5:27pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Sue & Moe:Sure enough, that fixed the problem. Thanks so very much for your input and assistance. Love these printers! Folks, for anyone with an HP LJ 4 or 5 who keeps getting a “50 Fuser Error: Cycle Power” error message and has tried everything else, try replacing the low-voltage power supply, located on the bottom

The printer automatically begins a 05 fuser error SELF TEST after power on and then displays a "50 Service" code. Seeing that most 50 error codes are fuser related and I had never replaced the fuser or even serviced the printer before this, I assumed that the fuser was the issue. I ordered a maintenance kit and replaced it. It went through the 05 SELF TEST and 02 WARMING UP mode and then I heard a click. Now I still get the "50 Service" error code again. Turning the printer off for 15 minutes does not fix 50 fuser error the problem. This is not identified in my book or on your website. It must be more serious than just a fuser related issue. Any Suggestions as to what a "50 Service" code means? The power supply makes logic voltages and supplies 110 volts for the fuser. The "50 Service" can mean that the fuser is not warming up or that it has overheated. Is there any way you can get these fusers into another LJ 4 to test them? If you have a meter you could check for 110VAC fuser voltage at the power supply. The connector is in the front end of the supply. Remove the plastic side cover and whatever sheet metal to get at the front end of the supply and check for 110VAC at J102. There must be a relay in the supply that turns the fuser on at a certain point in the power up cycle. The diagram shows the fuser power going through the High Voltage supply but I think it is just a convient place to hang the fuser connector Best bet might be to find a parts machine. I have seen working LJ4's at the surplus places for $20.
