Last time I went to go garmin radar error fishing, it was foggy as anything and we think no problem we have radar... Well, I should say HAD radar. Fired up the Garmin 4212 screen and I get an error code 6 saying the radar needs to be serviced. Called Garmin and they said it's either a high or low voltage issue. Checked all 3 batteries and they are all at 12+volts. Checked all the connections, and everything appears to be in order. So my question would be, have any of you all had a similar problem or have an idea of what else it could be? It won't matter for this purpose, but that unit is either an 18HD or a 24HD - the difference is the power/range - the 18 is an 18-mile radar, while the 24 is a 24-mile unit. They probably both use the same display,which would explain the 18/24.The code 6 is a diagnostic code resulting frm the self-test that is performed when the unit is powered on. I have not found a list of codes, so I have contacted Garmin directly to find out what that code is. It could be something simple like a bad connection, so if you are near the unit I would try disconnecting the cables and reconnecting - sometimes this is enough to re-establish a good connection. Take a look at the ends and make sure there is not any green corrosion - that would certainly cause some problems. You might want to pick up a can of electronics cleaner (available at Radio Shack, among others) and spray the connectors. CRC-56 oil will also work in a pinch.
