But, from domain joined servers/computers, it was a no go. I could get to \\server\sysvol\domain but it was empty. Same with \\domain\sysvol\domain - empty. Finally, I dropped to a command prompt and found this

Do you see it? No, I don't mean my horrible "coloring job" - I mean the Junction pointing to C:\Winnt\path... Really? WINNT? What decade is this? Anyway, without trying to figure out who/what/why, I simply removed that junction point and re-added it with "mklink" like so Then, I did a "gpupdate /force" to force a Group Policy Update. Then went to check the logs again... BAM! I still got it... Hope this helps. I found many "me too" people with issues, and many different forums suggesting many different fixes. I thought I would add my own fix to the mix. Woah, that rhymed. G'nite. this problem. When you install GPMC you get a sample folder full of very useful scripts that make use of GPMC COM event id 1058 error code 3 interfaces, The Script we are looking for is the DumpGPOInfo.wsf. For some reason Windows 2008 doesn't include this folder and you will have to download it manually from the following link http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=14536 After downloading and http://www.darylhunter.me/blog/2011/06/solved-group-policy-gptini-event-id-1058-1030.html installing the Sample scripts, use the above mentioned file to get the name of the GPO generating the above error. Cscript DumpGPOInfo.wsf {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} This will give you the friendly name of the GPO. You may delete, rename……….etc the GPO from the Group Policy Management Console. In my case I just enabled/disabled one setting and it worked fine and I was able to recreate the GPT.ini file back. 6 Comments Comments 6 comments: http://itcalls.blogspot.com/2011/11/troubleshooting-event-id-1058-group.html eduardo matriz Says: November 13, 2012 at 10:43 AM Hi, I am very interesting your post in you blog 'cause I have the same problem and need to fix. I already download and install the said scripts but the problem is I can't go through 'cause your post didn't mentioned where I go to check the errors of my GPO...Can you give me the sample step? Thanks and more power! Ahmed Nabil Says: November 13, 2012 at 8:59 PM Thanks for your feedback. After getting your friendly name GPO using the above script, just open this GP from the GPMC and check its setting as well as the GPT.ini. In my case the GPT.ini file was missing so i removed the GP and created it again. One other case i had to change one of its settings to make it work. It all depends on your GP. I have 2 DC's with server 2012 installed. im getting errors on my server error ID 1058 as below. "The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\Domain.Name\sysvol\oastlers.local\Policies\{6AC1 786C-016F-11D2-945F-00C04fB984F9}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. I think this is caused because the sysvol does not seem to be replicating from 1 DC to another and its only my secondary/DC that is getting this error. This seems to be causing big issues with group policy applying throughout my network. Any help welcome.
